Costco has this configuration for $699 (after rebate):

    AMD Turion 64 ML-32 1.8 (512KB)
    512MB
    60GB (4200RPM)
    DVDRW double layer
    15.4 WXGA Brightview
    128MB ATI Xpress 200m
    54g wireless 802.1 b/g

If you want to configure your own (faster CPU, 80GB 5400 HD, no Brightview, etc), the $150 instant savings is back again (plus the $50 rebate) so essentially $200 off and free shipping is still running on these.

There are deals on other models as well but this is the model I'm interested in :)
Also, HP.com is running their $100 instant savings again. Now that they charge tax in every state (even though shipping is still free), Costco seems to be a better deal plus you get their 6 month satisfaction guarantee.

    Thanks for the heads up.

Within the US, doesn't HP only charge tax to buyers from certain states?

No anymore since sometime early this month (or late Jan).
They now charge tax for every state (there's a thread where a user confirmed with HP).

yes, and I have now personally confirmed it. Ordering a dv5000z from Seattle, WA incurred close to $110 of tax. Darn HP, slipping in mandatory tax under the radar. If I had known I might've ordered ealier.

    ah well, "coulda, woulda, shoulda"....

Every state? Even states that don't have a sales tax? :(

No, I guess I should have said every state that has a sales tax.

Yep, I'm also in WA and I was thinking that I should've bought it in early Jan when they had free Brightview and wireless. But when configuring the same config through Costco, even with tax, it actually comes out $50 cheaper now.

Whew! Thanks for clearing that up. I hate to think that I'd have to factor in an extra $100+ into my budget should I decide to buy an HP.

Wow that's the same price as I just paid for a lesser machine configured from HP. The ship date isn't until friday...I wonder if I should just cancel and get this.

edit: It's not actually that cheap. If you go to order it they tack some nice fees on there. Plus, there's the 10-15 day time before it ships, same as from HP. Guess I won't be cancelling my order from hp :)

    Shipping & Handling: $21.45
    Non-Member Surcharge: $37.50
    Tax: $48.54

I guess if you were a Costco member that would take that $37.50 out of there, but it still costs an extra $70...

Yes, I'm a Costco member. HP charges me tax now so the only thing extra I pay is shipping ($16 for me) if I get the pre-configured one (probably ships faster though); CTO has free shipping. I've been checking prices for a couple months and from my calculations, HP.com (even with my EPP discount and no tax at that time) are still higher than the same config at Costco. I imagine everyone's config scenario might be different though.

With all the talk swirling with people not being happy with their DV5000Z; whether it's the screen, keyboard, blue lights, build quality, etc, it's reassuring to know I can make a 10 minute drive to Costco to return it within 6 months. Still waiting for my order but I have been having 2nd thoughts on getting a V4000T with the X700 card though (from Costco).

Btw, kids831, if you are planning to get the preconfigured one noted at the top, there are 23 left. There were 105 less than a week ago.

Sorry to bring up an old ass thread, but I just ordered one of the preconfigured DV5000Z from Costco after lurking here for awhile and reading reviews.

Did anyone else order one of these? How long did it take before they shipped? I'd assume the preconfig systems would ship quicker than if I configured it myself, but thats just a guess. Any ideas?

That's what I thought (and was hoping) too!
Sadly, I ordered on 02/21 and my order is still "In Process"! :(

Did anyone order one of these before that date and got shipping notice? They say 10-15 Business days. I thought that only applied to customized orders though but I guess it goes through the same build process and not shipped from a Costco warehouse? Today marks the 10th business day.

Do the BrightView addition for 23 Bucks.
It gives you The glossy screen..more brighter, more contrast.
    Will just trip you out.

    Do the 128MB 200M w/Hypermemory for 25$. You get 128 discrete and 128
Hypermemory for total 256MB video mem. In addition you get
6-1 media reader, IEEE1394 port, and extra USB 2.0 port with the 128MB 200M.

    Hi All,
I didn't buyy my machine from Costco, but I got a dv 5030z for $1200 plus tax after rebates. I am very happy with this machine. I have heard many complaints about the video on this machine but I have no problems running Doom3 at the second highest quality settings. It came with a Turion ml37, (2gig hz), 1 gig of ram, 100 gig hdd, enhanced wifi, dvd burner with Lightscribe, and a 15.4 " brghtview screen. Super pi to 2 million runs in 1 min 50 seconds, 3DMark 2003 gives 1530 for benchmark with HP drivers and no overclocking. No regrets 5000z series are decent machines. One note though get the 12 cell battery.

Hmm, I wonder what's holding up my order. Was this a customized order or a pre-configured one? Did you get a email shipping notice from Costco? Thanks.

    There might be hope yet.
I just emailed them today inquiring about my order and 15 minutes later, I get shipping notice! What the hell?

So I presume they messed up and my order was in limbo or they pushed some buttons and got may order out. Oh well, would've been nice to have the laptop a week ago but at least it shipped now.

So what's going on now with their deals?
It seems that they've got the $150 off configured systems still, but no deals (except $50 HP rebate) on custom systems

The deals are still displayed here:
    http://www.costco.com/Service/FeaturePage.aspx?ProductNo=11114986

but I can't get that "up to $200 off" to work when I try and customize. The $150 off the configured systems doesn't make them that cheep.

Still, I need something now. I wonder if their in store...

Looks like the Custom don't have Instant Coupon of 150$ off currently.
Although I see the Rebate of $50 in effect.

Check in store, they have various different laptops, but they're usually the higher end systems.

Now that kinda upsets me. So really, I should've got my laptop TWO weeks ago! Oh well, guess I should've emailed them earlier. Glad to hear it sounds like you're getting yours before your trip.

I just got an email tonight repsponding to my earlier email that they *just* checked the order status and it noted the order shipped today. Why can't they just say there was a error in the order/ship system and apologize for my order not being shipping until today? argh.

Sucks man, hopefully you get it soon! It's very nice! The blue lights everywhere are a little bit bright, but I don't care, I think they look dope. :D

My PageDn key goes *clicka* *clicka* everytime I hit it.. its the only one that does it, so no biggie. Other than that I'm happy!

Hopefully yours comes in ASAP man!
