Hi,
Just saw at the local Costco this model.
The 17" system certainly looks beefier than the 15" variety.
Here's a link to the specs:
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/genericDocument?cc=us&docname=c00540872&lc=en
Cost is $1499.
Just like the dv4217cl, this appears to be "unique" to costco also.

yeah, this looks like a good deal, with the added advantage that with Costco's computer policy, if something goes wrong in the first 6 months, you can bring it in for exchange or your money back. Very tempting: the same cost as HPOnline, but a better return policy...

$1765 - $150 in coupon and rebate. "about" $1500 with free shipping and no sales tax if I send it to my Dad's address in Oregon instead of paying 9% sales tax here in Washington...
In my "test" config, I opted for slower CPU, amx RAM, one HD and an extra AC adapter in place of the extra battery, the Lightscribe burner and the higher res screen. Also traded the XP Pro for XP Home and Office SE.

This thing is "massive" compared to the dv4000 though. If it didn't weigh so much at ~10lbs vs. 6.5lbs of the dv4000 where I'm typing this, I would have opted for the dv8000. But then again, I have 6 mos with my dv4000 right?

I don't think the DV8000 is around 10 pounds, thats the ZD8000.
-
Ooops. The spec site says 8.1 lbs.

The specs listed @ my local Costco Store are: 17" HD Wide Brightview, AMD Turion 64-37 (2.0 GHX / 1mb L2 cache / 1600 MHZ bus / 1GB DDR/ 160 GB HD 5400 RPM), AI Radian 128 MB, DL DVD+-R/RW / CDRW @ $1499.99
Can anyone comment on the speed of this PC, the clarity of the screen, and the graphics performance, etc. as compared to the DV 44155cl ... ? -
The Xpress 200m is an integrated card... much, much worse performance than the x700 discrete card available in the dv4000 series.
-
Yes - I had the X200M in my recently unloaded zv6000. It had O.K. game quality, enough were they were playable, but could only handle them at low settings all across the board. For this reason, I got rid of my zv6000 (my 4 year old Toshiba had a similar 3D Mark Score, which is completely riddiculous).
Costco now has HP dv8013cl
