I am considering selling my mbp (older one) and getting a DV3 from Costco with a 22-24 inch monitor. The specs are...

    AMD Turion 64 x2 ZM-82 2.2ghz
    Vista 64 bit
    4 gigs DDR2
    320gig HDD 5400RPM
    ATI HD3200 320mb

I was wondering how these specs will compare to the 2.2ghz santa rosa MBP that I currently have. Also, what is an Intel chip that is comparable to the above processor (I am more familiar with Intel chips).

Also, will the graphics card mentioned above me able to handle 22-24inch monitors?? I intend to use it at full resolution for watching HD content.

It's going to be a little slower than a 2.2GHz Santa Rosa, probably not enough to be all that noticeable outside of benchmarks. The ZM series is the best AMD currently offers. I have the same ZM-82 and HD3200 in my dv4z.

I have a 25.5" 1920x1200 res monitor plugged into my dv4z via HDMI. Works great for HDTV and Blu-ray. The HD3200 is the best integrated GPU you can buy and not much slower than a dedicated Radeon 3450.

Don't know if it was error or not, but Bestbuy's ad had a dv3 with a Core 2 advertised.

The DV3 has a HDMI output but the Dell s2209w monitor I am getting only has a DVI. Will I see a noticeable difference between HDMI-DVI and VGA-DVI/VGA-VGA?

Sorry mate but it is a MBP(pro) that he is talking about and I think that both the CPU and the GPU are better on the MBP and please try to be open minded about the OS and the product as they are darn good.

HDMI is literally DVI plus audio in a nicer hotplug cable. You'll see no video difference from DVI-DVI. VGA is analog and thus inferior to DVI and HDMI. Just make sure that your HDMI-to-DVI cable, if you have to buy one separately, is HDMI 1.3 or better certified.
