So as far as I know, July 14th is the date the dv5t comes out. After that, could I get last gen laptops for a cheaper price from the manufacturer's site? Or would I have to resort to sites like newegg, to get rid of their stock?

Yeah, companies usually sell their last-gen stuff at lower prices when new stuff comes out. Don't worry, HP will still have plenty of old stuff available as long as you don't wait too long. Also note that there's a coupon for HP notebooks right now ($400 off of notebooks $1,299+) or something, might want to even take advantage of that :).
