Hello folks. I have a couple questions. I know these questions have been asked and answered on some huge threads. I was just hoping for some quick help. I am buying an Envy tonight through HP Academy. I just got off of chat with HP and she told me that the 14 Beats edition has the Sandy Bridge and the plain 14 Envy still has the old processor. I told her that I thought both models came with SB processors. Is she correct or misinformed? I also want to know specifically if the touchpad has improved from last year. Oh and one last thing. I am going to get the base Beats edition. I do not play games or video editing. The base should be fine Right? Thanks for your time

I am typing this right now on my plain Envy 14 with an i5-2410M Sandy Bridge chipset/processor. She is wrong.

The touchpad is improved from what I've heard and read (never used last generation so I can't compare), but if you follow some simple steps a couple pages back in this thread (thanks to automagical and eafd) and in the thread about the touchpad (download Reil's touchpad fix), it's damn near perfect. I am not exaggerating either.

You'll be just fine with the base model. Caution if you're trying to get the free XBox though... that coupon can't be combined with any other sort of discount or coupon (other than EPP or Student), so make sure you really want the XBox. Anything goes wrong or you want to be reimbursed or discounted for something, you're screwed if you get the XBox. I speak from experience :(.

Oh yeah of course you can return it. My experience was that mine was delayed and then there were a couple hardware problems with it. It was a real pain to get anything more than the standard 15% of your next purchase that you get for delayed shipping. If I had known that, I would never have gotten the XBox and I would have gotten more of an upgrade out of my replacement. But yeah, you can return it.

Yep if I was you I would demand for more than a 15% next purchase discount. I read someone on this forum got a bump on the specs and further discount. But he was delayed 2-3 times.

I'm considering to buy using the student disc + free xbox as my friend wants to buy the xbox at full price. So I'll be getting like 10% (~$150) + $200 (from xbox) discount.

Are you sure that you got the problematic hardware issue due to the xbox deal? Not just coincidentally unlucky that you got some defective unit.

Because if there is a 'somewhat' direct relationship on free xbox deal and 'below quality' units then I won't go for it. lol

Oh trust me I demanded. And I understand now that when they say they can't do anything else with that XBox coupon, they can't. Luckily, they just extended my return period for my 1st computer. I ordered a new one and paid for it, and I'll return the first one and get a full refund. Thus, anything wrong with my new one, no stupid XBox deal to stand in the way of getting hooked up.

Also, there's nothing to do with XBox coupon and defective hardware. Not sure where you got that idea from!
