First of all would like to say hi and thanks in advance for any help, Can see me being on here a bit as I get caught up in anything I buy.

I have just got a CQ61 310sa And want to upgrade it, I see the amd turion cpu's are my best option and most likely my only option. Where can I source one of these and what one would be best?

Is it a case of get the cpu and just fit it, or is there anything else I need at the same time?

I also want to go from 2 x 1gb ram to 2 x 2gb ram, I see this is the ddr2, but oes anyone know what sort or make ram I should go with an again a good uk cheap supplier?

P.s I have a sempron m100 cpu at the moment with a 512 mb cache which seems v weak to me.

    Help is very appreciated people.

    Thanks again.

The Sempron M100 is a socket s1g3 cpu, so any of the new Turion II or the Athlon II should fit the socket provided bios support. The CQ 61 series is sold with both the above cpu's, so the bios should be capable of supporting the Turion and Athlons. Make sure to upgrade the bios to the latest version before doing the upgrade. HP has service manuals available in pdf form on their website, check it out for disassembly instructions...

As far as the RAM is concerned any DDR2 sodimm memory should do fine. Just test the memory throughly after installation to make sure its stable.
