Hi folks, I'm wondering if this is a hardware or a software issue: namely, when trying to use my HP dv6t-se laptop as a DVD player (while my dead Xbox 360 is out for repairs) and connecting it to my HDTV, I get a crackling mixed in with the audio--it's super-annoying. I tried two different HDMI cables. The playback software was the HP MediaSmart stuff that came with the laptop. I'm going to try VLC Media Player just in case it's a software problem, but does that sound more like a software or a hardware thing?

Otherwise I've had no complaints with the laptop, and there are no sound problems when just watching the DVD on the laptop's screen, apart from the rather pitiful sound level/frequency response.
