Hi all,
I am looking into a dv2000t and love almost everything about it. The big sticking point for me (literally!): the smooth touchpad. I don't like touchpads in general, but the new HPs have a very smooth touchpad that makes it hard to accurately control the cursor. I don't know what they were thinking when they put this into such an otherwise beautifully designed laptop.
Anyways, anyone else feel this way? And are there any ways to make the touchpad better?
Thanks!

go to Start->Control Panel->Mouse (or TouchPad), then increase the sensitivity a couple of notches. I had the same problem with my XPS M140 until I did that.

Miner is right. It's all about personal preferences. I didn't find anything wrong with the touchpad.
Good luck with finding a solution to it. -
I'm not sure if it's the sensitivity so much as the annoying "high-friction" nature of the surface. Several reviews of the DV2000T pointed this out, so I am not completely alone.
I agree though, perhaps it more noticeable to some people than others. -
It is a deal breaker for me atleast. Was planning on buying dv9000 but after seeing the dv6000 and dv2000 in stores i changed my mind. The touchpad and mouse buttons are in a word "crappy". The touchpad seems like it will wear down really quickly, and the mouse buttons are soft and feel flimsy.

Are we talking about the touchpad being too smooth as in not enough friction and having to decrease sensitivity, or it won't move as much as you want it to, thus having too much friction and having to increase sensitivity? I'm confused because some people are saying both. In any case, as long as the motion of the mouse isn't chaotic or anything like that, you'll be able to get used to it over time. Keep practicing! Touchpad mousing is a skill.

Seeing as I have never used a touchpad before, this being my first laptop, everything seemed sort of "standard", like a starting point. I've had it for a month now and the touchpad is pretty good.

What a non-issue, in my mind.
I have the dv2000t and the few times I have to use the built in touchpad, I haven't had ANY issues with it.
Even if someone does have an issue, for $30-35, get yourself a Logitech wireless mouse (several different ones available) and you'll never need to touch the mousepad!
I can't believe that anyone would pass on what they feel is an excellent laptop, simply because they don't like the touchpad!
(I also don't get what people find objectionable... I've used it on several occasions, and simply don't have any problem using it. I guess different people have different wants/needs...) -
The issue with the touchpad is that it's glossy. Most touchpads have a matte finish that make it easy for your finger to slide across. These are glossy and shiny--try running your finger over a pane of glass and you might get a similar feeling.
That said, I looked at one at Office Depot again today, and it didn't seem nearly as bad as I'd remembered last time. Perhaps the oil from all of the people running their fingers over it over the last couple of months made it easier to use. It won't be an issue for me, at least not a dealbreaker. The buttons bothered me more, but the way the dv2000 is designed makes them less of an issue. They're a bit easier to use than the v3000's, I think. -
Hmm, I like the new glossy touchpad over the older matte ones, but that's me...
Crappy touchpad a dealbreaker on DV2000t?
