    Dear Friends,

I just ordered a customized HP Pavilion dv9700t laptop that I'm supposed to receive around 6/17.

Meanwhile, I've been coming across the terms "crapware" and "bloatware" and figure that I'll run into some of it on the laptop I receive.

What's the best way to clean it out? I seem to remember reading that, on receiving the computer, one simply reformats and reinstalls, eliminating the crapware in the process.

Is anyone informed on the details of that process?

    Regards to all from,

    Jack Owens

Yeah, I think clean installing is the best way. Check out the stickies up top.

orev's clean installation guide is well recommended. The bloatware will cripple your new notebooks performance.

You simply just need to get a hold of ANY Vista Install disc.

Hmmm. Since you would be using the LEGAL Product Key you purchased with your laptop to install the software, and ALL Vista Install Discs contain all versions of the Vista software sans product key, wouldn't it be legal to use any Vista Install Disc as long as you didn't use a pirated Product Key?

i think he meant non-downloaded. to the OP - theres a thread in the windows subforum that contains LEGAL download links for both 32 and 64 bit editions of vista, might want to check that out if you can't get ahold of any vista discs. :)

There's a few threads around here on this. A search on HP BLOATWARE might find some of them.

So if I copy a Microsoft-made windows disc, I can use it? I get the product key thing, but I mean the actual disc. That's like saying, can I actually make a duplicate of a game and use a legal product key?

I'm curious, are vista discs that you make yourself and download yourself or even copy from a friend or anything like that legal? Let's neglect the product key.

if you have a key, you can download(not recommended though), but ISP's don't know that you have a key and they can get microsoft involved....etc etc. if you own a game, you are entitled the right to make a backup of the game. but if your friend has the game and you don't have a key for the game your out of luck. if you have a key, you can use whichever media you like.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure you're in the clear if you own it already. Then again, you own the OEM version, not the retail version, so they could always use that against you.
