I have recently had a few instances of surfing the net and the screen goes to blue and says "windows encountered a problem and closed", tells me to check all my new installations, which I haven't done, and at the bottom "collecting data for mini-crash dump". What is this and why does it typically happen? Each time I restart and do a hp system tuneup and did a disk scan and everything shows ok. I wonder if my sprint data card is having an issue. I reinstalled the driver and it still happens. Any ideas. I really did not expect this to happen already. Any help is appreciated, thanks. I have not done a system restore yet. Just not sure what steps to take to avoid this destroying my pc.

No, I have not updated yet. I have done all the important windows updates only. I was waiting to see if the feedback on the latest graphics driver was good. I am still trying to understand the benefits of the new BIOS and exactly how to go about doing that. Do you recommend doing so?
Just not to sure about my expertise yet if I encounter a problem. I just don't want to screw anything up worse than now.

What is the blue screen code? You can usually Google it and see what is causing the problem. There are more advanced tools that can extract info from the mini-dumps, but I would start with the BSOD code.

Okay, I think the code is

    BCCode:d1

From what I have read online it could be a video driver, my Norton anit-virus, or network drivers (what ever those are).
Anyone have this code on a dv6tqe intel machine yet?

Could it be google chrome?? I looked and installed google chrome on 7-17, first crash was on 7-20. How long would a problem generally take to show up?

Well the D1 error code is this.

The system attempted to access pageable memory using a kernel process IRQL that was too high. The most typical cause is a bad device driver (one that uses improper addresses). It can also be caused by caused by faulty or mismatched RAM, or a damaged pagefile.

It should tell you what it was last doing.

    Try uploading your minidump

I feel it was something you last installed .... It could be your 3g card you installed.

I tried to open the files, but cannot? I also tried to reinstall the 3g card and update it. It was first installed on 7-12, started having this blue screen thing on 7-20.
Still happening. But only when I am connected to the internet with the card I think. So something with the card I believe, bad card maybe?

    Quite possible.

You cannot read the minidump in raw ascii text mode. It is pure gibberish. A simple windows debugger can read it, there's another one that could read it but I don't know what it is called.

When I go to download the microsoft debugger for 64bit, it says it may damage my computer  ? What the?! I cancelled the download. I tried to reinstall my 3g card again, this time directly from Sprint's website. I uninstalled completely first and then reinstalled. Keeping my fingers crossed that it solved the problem I am having!
