Hi I am new to this forum, but I currently have a problem. Recently my brother gave me some money, ($1,900.00) to be exact, to purchase any HP computer that I want to bring to college. Now I have narrowed it down to 2 different models. Can you help me pick out which one is best in terms of just the computer itself and not what I will do with the notebook. My two options are (and the only these are allowed, I will not pick any other one):

    DV2500T
-Genuine Windows Vista Home Premium (32-bit)
    -Intel(R) Core(TM) 2 Duo processor T7500 (2.20 GHz, 4 MB L2 Cache, 800MHz FSB)
    -2GB DDR2 System Memory (2 Dimm)
    -64MB NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS
-HP Imprint (Radiance) + Fingerprint Reader + Webcam + Microphone
-HP Broadband Wireless with 802.11a/b/g/n (draft 802.11n) WLAN and Bluetooth
    -160GB 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive
-High Capacity 6 Cell Lithium Ion Battery
-LightScribe SuperMulti 8X DVD+/-RW with Double Layer Support

    OR

DV6500T (I can get WHITE SPECIAL EDITION or REGULAR RADIANCE) ---> WHICH ONE IS BETTER GUYs?

-Genuine Windows Vista Home Premium (32-bit)
    -Intel(R) Core(TM) 2 Duo processor T7700 (2.40 GHz, 4 MB L2 Cache, 800MHz FSB)
    -2GB DDR2 System Memory (2 Dimm)
    -128MB NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS
-HP Imprint ( Influx design or regular Radiance) + Fingerprint Reader + Webcam + Microphone
    -Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 4965AGN Network Connection and Bluetooth(TM) -------->>> WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE? WITH THIS THAN 3945ABG ?
    -FREE Upgrade to 160GB 5400RPM from 120GB 5400RPM!!
-LightScribe SuperMulti 8X DVD+/-RW with Double Layer Support
-High Capacity 6 Cell Lithium Ion Battery
-HP Wireless Laser Mini Mouse (White) and Mobile Stereo Headset (1 pair, White) ch

    1) Which notebook should i get just base solely on the notebook specs and not what I will use the notebook for?
    2) If i choose dv6500t should i go with the white special edition or the regular black radiance?
    3) is there a noticable difference between the T7500 with 2.2GHZ and the T7700 with 2.4GHZ?
    4) What battery would you recommend for at least 2.5 hours wihtout charge?
    5) What is the difference between the wireless Connection of 3945ABG versus 4965AGN

I am going to college soon and I need to know which computer would be tight.
    Thanks!

Good choices, since you are a college student, I'd get the DV2500T, it's noticably lighter than the DV6500T.

Also, the nice thing about getting the DV2500T is that you get the same video card and the same resolution as the 15 inch 6500T, so it would be much wiser to get a lighter, 14 incher instead.

Good luck in your decision, I have the DV2500T with the exact same configuration as yours (besides the Lightscribe and the Fingerprint reader) and I absolutely love my laptop).

Please use bigger fonts. I can't quite read what you typed. Maybe a mixture of different sized fonts would help...in fact, why don't you bold some of the words too.

    thx.

    The dv6500t.
    Whichever one you like best.
    No.
Depends on what you're doing. If you're gaming, or even watching a movie I'd go for a 12-cell.
The latter has support for the faster wireless "N" standard, as well as the older A, B, and G standards.

What are you using it for? The only difference is that one will be clocked 9% higher than the other, which for general use will show no noticeable difference.

hey, Illmatic8, I noticed that in your sig, it says that you got a a 1.3mp camera on your laptop...isn't the dv2500t supposed to come with a VGA camera. I though the 1.3mp cam was only being offered with the dv2000

I would also recommend the 6500t. Since the specs are virtually the same why not go with the bigger screen. If you're going to do a lot of assignments the larger screen would be easier on the eyes. Weight and speed difference are not that far off. The wireless N should also suffice since it's backwards compatible with b/g and you're ready for the future. Too bad HP doesn't have blu-ray options.

I would add the 8510w from newegg $1850 to your list of possibilities.

I have one and like it a lot. VERY fast, even in games.

I see you get a bunch of money. Don't buy HP's home/home office computers. They're not designed to be used in highly mobile condition, such as college or frequent business vocations.

Personally I would also suggest HP Compaq 6910p. It seems to be expensive compared to 6500t/2500t. However, there is evidence that business line product will survive longer than home computer. Also it is the lightest 14.1' computer I've ever heard. Only 4 pounds! Think about when you have to carry all the textbooks and a computer within your backpack, especially when you don't have a car in school.

You're gonna use it for at least four years in college! Make it a good investment. Or you'll end up to buy another computer after two years, unless you buy three years' warranty. Trust me you won't like it when you have to repair somthing.

I'm sorry but this is the dumbest thread I've read in a long time.

    1) Don't use a mixture or big/small/bold fonts.

    2) It's really hard for us to make a decision for you without knowing what you are are going to do with it.
If you wanted to know which is better, any idiot could look at the specs and say what is better.
That's like asking someone if Viper or a Civic is better (without telling them that they need to commute 200 miles a day).

    3) if you made a choice? At least tell us what you went with.

Colleges/Schools should have classes on how to write a decent inquiry thread on forums.

why don't you look it up? or at least do your homework. i was just asking for an opinion.
and to look at it, the specs of the two computer arent that far off of each other. so your analogy of a civic and a viper is blown out of porportion. :p

btw, do you even know your cars? damn.
