OK I read the last thread on this but I could not find HPCD.sys I searched several times and nothing comes up, can someone point me into the right direction on where to find this file, and how do you access the recovery drive to search there all I get is a HP warning screen telling me its the recovery drive.

Also I want to create a second set because I plan to format the recovery partition and install linux, at some point anyway.
And on that note does anyone have a recommendation on a distro of linux that worked well on a HP. And, I almost forget, where do I go in Windows to manage the partitions and format the one.

If you want to create a second set of Recovery cds, you can use any burning program i.e Nero.

All Linux distro should work with HP. I personally like Ubuntu.

And for your last question, left click My Computer - manage - storage - disk management, you should be able to format from there.

Open your recovery partition disk, then click on "Organize", then "Folder and Search Options". Go to the "View" tab and in the options do this:

Hidden files and folders: (X) Show hidden files and folders
Uncheck "hide extensions for known file types"
Uncheck "Hide protected operating system files"

You should see the HPCD.sys file should be on D: drive now

Thanks, I never noticed the other two unhide options in the view tab and never realized that choosing to show hidden files doesn't actually show all hidden files.

But the recovery drive was annoying me every time I double clicked all got was that HP window. But I'm good now thanks.
