    Dear notebook gurus!

I am looking for a customized version of R4000 in the following configuration:
    • Microsoft(R) Windows(R) XP Professional with SP2
    • AMD Athlon(TM) 64 4000+ (2.4GHz/1MB l2 Cache)
    • 15.4" WXGA BrightView Widescreen (1280x800)
    • 128MB ATI RADEON(R) XPRESS 200M w/Hypermemory(TM)
    • 2.0GB DDR SDRAM (2x1024MB)
    • 80 GB 5400 RPM Hard Drive
    • DVD+/-RW/R & CD-RW Combo w/Double Layer Support
    • 54g(TM) Integ. Broadcom 802.11b/g WLAN & Bluetooth
    • 12 Cell Lithium Ion Battery
    • Microsoft(R) Works/Money
Living in Canada I, quite naturally, inquired HP Canada where it can be ordered from and got a response, that “The configuration you described can only be achieved by custom ordering the Presario R4000 Series Notebook. Unfortunately, custom order options for notebooks and computers are not available through Canadian HP web site.”

If someone knows about a way I can get this laptop in Canada (I do not have a US billing/shipping address, unfortunately enough) or has found a retailer that sells them, could you please let me know at your earliest opportunity?

    Respectfully,
    John

    CCCP,

The only way I can see you getting this custom config'd notebook is either have it shipped to someone in the US and then you can pick it up. You might be able to goto a shop, like Staples or some other shop that does custom HP/Compaq's and order it there. You might be able to pick it up from them when it arrives (just guessing).

The only other way to get a system similar to what you listed is to buy a system in Canada with the main specs as close as possible (LCD, CPU & DVDRW since you can't really upgrade these easily), and then replace the HDD and add ram.
