I've been looking around www.hp.ca in an attempt to customize my laptop. Any series really, from dv2000 to dv6000. On the website I see no option to customize, though it is extremely evident on www.hp.com. This is a major letdown, if we can only buy the pre-made ones. Am I just missing something here?

    No, you're not missing something.

Currently, HP only allows those in the United States to order customized models.

I've gone to Futureshop already, and had a look at the dv6110 (I believe it was this). Anyway, it was basically nice, but not exactly what I wanted. Dell is looking a little more appealing now, since they customize for canucks.

Be sure to check out other companies like Best Buy, Staples, and other retailers. When I bought my dv8000, the same base model number yielded quite a different number of specs between retailers (probably under some sort of retailer/manufacturer agreement).

If you are close enough to one, Dell has some mall kiosks where you can check out laptops more closely. However, the laptop will still have to be shipped to your location.
