Hey guys. I'm thinking about getting the new HP dv7t laptop with the new Centrino 2 (Monevina) processor. I belive this processor supports DDR3 RAM. I know OCZ just released a DDR3 version of laptop RAM. Will my HP support this new RAM? I asked the HP people via tech chat and phone call and one said it would and the other said it would not. Just wondering if a company such as HP could purposally limit the type of RAM, I was under the impression that the chipset dictated that for the computer. If you could shed shome light on my situation I would appreatiate it greatly. Thanks.

Just like DDR and DDR2, DDR3 uses different pin configurations. So, a DDR3 memory wont work in a DDR2 slot and vice versa. They are not backwards compatible. All current systems using DDR2 slots wont work with DDR3 memory. The chipset might support it but ultimately the slot & the motherboard can only take DDR2 memory.
