I have a DM1Z that I am going to use in my car. It's connected via HDMI to a touchscreen in the dash.

I have a remote power button (connected to the power board under the stock power button) to power it on but it only works it the lid is open more than ~30 degrees.

If the lid is any closer to closed then it ignores any presses to the power button.

This is a complete drag as I have no way to mount the DM1Z in my car and still be able to remotely power it on.

I'm hitting the road pretty soon. Any ideas? I can't find any switches that get tripped by the lid closing so I'm not really sure how that works.

I'm thinking I may disassemble it again, this time removing the display (using the HP service manual). The reed switch / magnet for this must be in the display's hinges ... has anyone seen the switch? Can you point me at it?

You can leave it on and put it in sleep/hibernate mode. Maybe then you'll be able to turn it on without the lid open.

I need to be able to power on from whatever state it was in (sleep, hibernate, shutdown, etc).

In any event, it doesn't seem to matter. That reed switch seems to prevent the laptop from doing anything when the lid is anywhere near being closed.

there is a setting where you can tell it to do nothing if the lid is closed

right click the battery icon in the bottom right > power options > "choose what closing the lid does"

if thats not already set right, then try setting it and see if it turns on with the lid closed

I'm talking about powering up ... way before Windows or Quickweb has a say. If this is any way configurable it would be through BIOS.

Since there are no BIOS settings for it, and Advanced BIOS (if it even had such a setting) isn't available in f.12, this does me no good.

The only option then is to find and disconnect the reed switch.

I couldn't get the display off as I don't have a long enough #0 phillips. For now I'm just going to have to pull the laptop out of its hiding place and open the lid to power on. Lame.

If I can find a magnet maybe I can use that to help me tease out the location of the switch - then maybe I won't have to disassemble the entire thing.

In any event, I'm hitting the road so this project will have to wait for some other day.
