    Hello,

I tried to review the huge dm1z thread and there were few people who asked few questions about the 2nd slot and I couldnt find any definitive answers. Also I thought it would be easier to track if this minipcie questions have their own thread.

1- Did anybody get a wwan card functioning in this slot? If yes, please let us know exactly what components and how?

2- Does dm1z in Europe have the wwan slot and sim slot installed? (I read that somebody in Belgium could not find that slot in his model).

3- Did anybody get a ssd functioning in this slot? if yes, please let us know the details.

4- Does dm1z in USA or anywhere else have wwwan and sim slot and perhaps antennas installed? Do you have definitive information?

    Thanks!

Well, when I got my dm1z here in the USA there was no mobile broadband option available at that time, but it comes with the sim slot regardless but no antennas.
I believe the only wwan card that can be put in is the Qualcomm un2420 because of the BIOS whitelist and as such I don't think a SSD is possible. This of course ignoring what the slot is capable of

It looks like pre-configured models of the dm1z do not have the 2nd slot. Custom ordered ones sold in the US have the slot along with a unblocked SIM card slot.

Thanks for the replies. So you can tell with 100% certainty that if the 2nd slot and sim card slot exists the Qualcomm un2420 card will function?

While not directly related to dm1z, does anybody know if some other brand (sony vaio y or msi u270 for example) have a better chance of accommodating a wwan card?

Part number in the manual is 531993-001 which is indeed the un2420.

Yes, I see it in the manual but in european and US manuals there is also sim slot and 2nd minipci slot is mentioned but it appears that not all of the dm1z models have these parts. Can we really trust the manual? I would feel safer knowing if somebody tested this hands on... Did anybody actually accomplish getting any card to work?

But thanks for pointing out the information from the service manual. I didnt know that it was mentioned there...

    Hi everyone,

I'm an 'almost" happy owner of a HP DM1Z!
    Model DM1-3100 (bought in BELGIUM).
I've read the service manual before buying this model, because I wanted to be sure I could install a 3G Mini pci-e card.
To my joy the manual had all the options already in it BUT to my surprise when I opened the DM1 : no sim card reader, no m-pcie slot and no atennas !!!
I had already added these things to my old Aspire One (had same 'surprise'). So I ordered the missing pieces and soldered them yesterday onto the DM1.
BUT the only thing now : the Gobi m-pcie card is not found in OS.
I suspect that we (as for the Aspire One) need to shortcircuit 2 pins on the motherboard to activate wwlan slot.
SO, my question to you all : can someone put or send me some highdef pictures of the motherboard with m-pcie & sim card reader standard installed? I can then check with this motherboard and see where the difference lies in terms of pins.
I've attatched some pictures of my mainboard (no 2nd m-pcie slot and sim card holder - soldered myself the sim card reader and 2nd slot).
So, now I need you all to find a way to activate power to both (I found WWAN 1.5 text on the back of the mainboard - see picture).
If someone can help...electronic person or just a few ideas will be more than welcome to complete this hack!!
I'm certain we can find a way to activate this slot, so all the 'unhappy' owners of a crippled DM1 can maybe add this on their own.

    Thanks to you all.

    Cheers,
    Davy

Probably not, the photos Davy needs are from the other side of the board. But I think some other components might be missing and it might not be trivial to find those components...

Well no point in taking it apart since bios will prolly blacklist unsupported devices. First I'm going to get more intel on this.

You can easily find wwan cards which are supported by HP bios on eBay, as a matter of fact they go as cheap as $40 with international shipping included.

Not sure what you mean by "getting more intel on this" ?
