    Hello

    I have a hp DM3-1130US
w/ most recent bios updates etc.....

i just got my ocz vertex 2 ssd in the mail today
installed the ssd and then installed win 7 thru my recovery disc and after the installation completed it said it would restart to install preinstalled software and it might restart a couple of times through the process (the normal stuff you see when performing a system restore)

but then once it rebooted i get a black screen with no bootable device found

when i plug my ssd into my desktop thru my sata usb kit it shows up fine with all the win 7 files on it but my DM3 wont recognize it

on the ocz forums i just see info about enabling the achi acpi or something or also enabling IDE boot for the ssd to get recognized if it doesnt automatically recognize it but my bios in this dm3 gives me no such option - the bios in this dm3 sucks

    any ideas

or anyone else get an ssd to work in a dm3 1130

Easiest way is to try to put it in another notebook/desktop and check if it works there. With enabling/disabling whatever you want on desktop. Then sent it back and get another one without malfunction.

STOP. The easiest way is from the beginning to call to the shop, sent it back and get a good one) heard about some Vertex 2 not recognized by machines after couple reboots.

Yeah, i read that in the first message. but SSD should work fine without changing nonexistent settings. I don't have it on mine however i don't have SSD. You can ask everyone who has vertex 2 if they changed smth in the bios. I doubt they did

interesting because most research i have done - atleast in desktops - and with experience of friend's desktops is that you need to change your sata setting to ide or change your ahci - alot of people have to do that from the ocz forums

I had the exact same issue with my DM3T and Vertex 2 240GB SSD. I ended having to do a clean install (not with the restore DVD's) and it worked fine.

good to here that others have had this problem and found a solution - when you did a clean install did you use your previous product key with an actual windows 7 disc - i have a windows 7 disc and just havent had time to try to install it with that and use the current product key

Any updates on this? I have a DM1030US and the 7200 hard drive just failed. I'd like to replace it with an SSD but want to be sure I get something that will work.

Has anyone with an early-model DM3 been successful in swapping out the standard 320GB 7200 RPM Hitachi drive for an SSD?
