Unfortunatly there is no setting to just turn it off. Im not really sure about unplugging the light, but i have seen people take the display apart and put a piece of electrical tape over the light so it didnt bleed through the screen.

I read their is a cable plug for the led, forgot to check it out when I did repaste .

Everynight i need to cover the light with something(metrocard/checkbook/watever on my desk) so i can sleep and left the laptop on......

Edit: I will push myself to open it up tonight zzz, sick of crawling out bed and look for something to cover it.

yes you can unplug it. when i was upgrading my screen to the 1080p screen, i left the HP logo cable unplug and no issues at all.

    unknownyello,

Where did you get your screen, and which one did you get?

I checked some sites that sell screens but they only sold 1366x768 versions.
Several of the sites said that upgrading the screen to a higher resolution could cause problems. I asked how, and was told that the display cables might not be powerful enough to handle the 1080p signal, or that the higher screen resolution could stress the video card. Sounds odd to me... but one never knows.

I'd like to upgrade my screen as well.

    Thanks for the link.

It sounds like replacing the screen is huge annoying ordeal.

I was hoping it was an easy procedure. HP gave me a huge discount on a 3 year ADP warranty, and chances are at some point Im going to need to send the system in for repair at least once or twice in those 3 years..... in which case I'd need to reinstall the original screen to avoid my warranty being voided.

i thought disassembling my dv7t would be a hard but i followed the instructions in the manual and its really not that bad at all

i mean if you can be without the laptop for a few days then by all means send it in
