I bought a HP Presario DV8339us a few days ago and I put Windows XP on it and installed all the necessary drivers. Now I have no idea what's going on but when i maximize my Firefox or IE windows the screen flickers constantly and won't stop until I actually turn off the computer. I'm running on a nVidia GeForce GO 7600. Got all the drivers from the HP site so i'm pretty sure they aren't corrupt. Lemme know what you guys think. Thanks

So did you install the ones from nvidia? I know the HP go 7400 drivers didnt work with world of warcraft at all for me but the nvidia ones worked great. If you still have the problem with the nvidia drivers your video card might be going bad. If so you would have to replace the whole motherboard. I have worked on dv8000's before its not that hard you just need some time.

If the screen flickers so hard that its about to give you a seizure, then its just your drivers.

Change to the latest drivers or 169.01. Use driversweeper if its still not working.

    Okay try the following:

    1) Download driversweeper and run it in safe mode to flush off all driver files, restart

    2) In normal mode, download this driver, unzip it to a folder

    3) Now download this and put in the folder above and overwrite the old .inf file

    4) Run the setup file and restart your notebook.

If it still persists then it might be a hardware issue, to completely rule it out your going to need to use a different OS like a Linux Live CD

ok so what the problem was (I think) is that there was a ATI display driver installed with the nVidia driver. I guess the numbnuts i got the computer from didn't notice the green sticker on the palmrest that says "Graphics by nVidia- GeForce GO 7600". the driversweeper took the ATI off the computer though and so far the problem is gone
