First is how to play audio thru HDMI. I read the other thread on the forum and I know what to do, but when I right click the speaker, the "Digital Audio Device (HDMI) option is not there. Only the original two that are always there.

Second, (I know this is a dumb question) but I cannot seem to find the setting that will allow me to change the external display thru HDMI from an extended monitor to mirror the display. I keep trying to make it so windows will re recognize the monitor but every time I plug the HDMI cable in, it just extends it. I have looked everywhere I know of to try and change this but I cannot find it.

    Thanks for the help.

You have to look at the HDMI device that you have hooked up to get audio, TV monitor will SPDIF out and internal speakers, computer monitor that accepts HDMI will have audio out jack. HDMI to DVI will not send an audio signal to the monitor or TV.

It looks like your connections is wrong.

Here is what I can tell you...

    FIRST
    [IMG]
Go here to change your video settings.

    SECOND
    [IMG]
This is where it should take you.

    THIRD
    [IMG]
Make your TV your main monitor. You must extend to it first.

    FOURTH
    [IMG]
Then uncheck the box for extending it on your laptops monitor.

    FIFTH
    [IMG]
Here is where you need to select the digital audio out. It will then travel via HDMI, but you cannot select this with a movie playing because you would have to restart the movie. All your regular audio should still work.

    If this helps rep it!

I got the video working, but the audio still does not. Is there anyway that I can use the HDMI cable to carry audio for the whole system ie iTunes and Firefox ect? Even with the HDMI cable and then the green and pink cables from the speaker bar on my Gateway 24" wont transmit audio. (For this its the computer. These cables work with my Dell XPS M1210).

1)Right click the sound icon on your taskbar > Click Playback Devices

2)You will see SPDIF > Right Click this and choose Set As Default Device

    3) Right click again and click Test. You should hear chimes comming out of your TV

    4) Restart or reload whatever program your using so it comes out of the tv now

You may not have "SPDIF" output. It could also be "Realtek digital output". The CTO laptops do not have SPDIF output. Once you change the default to digital output, you must exit and restart whatever program you are using (media center, itunes, etc...)

I know on my dv9700t CTO, there is no SPDIF output...as opposed to on the dv9000t CTO I had which had an SPDIF output that was sharing the right headphone port on the front of the machine.

The 9700 doesn't have that...which I verified with the 1/8" to Toslink digital cable I got for that use.
