Well, I'll bite:
I've got a dv9000t CTO:
Windows Vista Ultimate (came with 64-bit, switched to a dual boot XP/Vista Ultimate x86)
Intel Core 2 Duo T7200 (2.0GHz/4MB L2Cache)
17.0" WSXGA+ BrightView Widescreen (1680x1050)
512MB NVIDIA GeForce Go 7600
HP Imprint Finish + Microphone + Webcam
4GB DDR2 System Memory (came with 2GB)
500 GB 5400RPM SATA Dual Hard Drive (came with 160GB drives, swapped in 250GB drives)
HD DVD ROM with SuperMulti DVD+/-R/RW Double Layer
Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network w/Bluetooth
HP Expresscard TV Tuner for Windows Vista Notebook
I've had it now 11 months, and have used it extensively as a desktop replacement, mainly at home and in an xb3000 dock. It's running constantly for the most part, and have had a Zalman NC-1000 cooler under it for the majority of the time I've owned it. Even when it's gone mobile with me, I run the cooler, but that's as much habit as necessity. I've had no problems hardware-wise, and even the software issues I have encountered were my own fault. My XP installation works flawlessly, and even the Vista Ultimate x86 install is going along okay. I don't beat the machine hard, burning music or ripping movies, word processing, surfing and the like...never been a gamer, so it's a non-issue to me.
I'm replacing it (Friday!) with a dv9700t, simply because I wanted the newer innards, and will be selling this bad boy to one of my buddies so when we deploy he's got a machine. -

Model: DV6000
Specs: -1.6ghz amd turion 64 tl-52 - 1gb ram - 80gb hd - nvidia go 7200-
Lifetime: 6 months old
Fault/Issues:mobo fried. three beeps
Note: paid $400 to repair it, and sold it. -
not to be mean flipfire. but the people on this board majority wise, register because they have problems. so the answers you'll get are bias. if you look at the total range of HP computer problems, it would be a minority.

Compaq 1525us: To old to worry about specs, 5 years, still works.
zv6005us, 3 years, wife loves it, still works.
dv9700t CTO, 1 month, no issues. -
My first laptop died out on me for no reason. I didnt know why till i searched around and found alot of people had the same problem too. -
also, if there are any known issues with the dv series, what advice would you guys have in terms of care and maintenance to keep it healthy? i've owned an old school IBM thinkpad t41 for 5 years so it's been kind of rough trying to make the transition into my next laptop... as much as i'd love to go with another thinkpad, i'm really sold on the design and look of the dv2700 and i'd like to assume that it would last me a good while -
Yes, it was replaced with nearly the same specs. They upgraded my gfx card to a geforce 8400GS since the old GO 7200 fried. I sold it to my sister when i recieved it the other day since. Im quite happy with it overall, thats why i bought another one even when i already had broken one that was due for repairs
HP's design is what attracted me aswell. The "verve special edition" is irresistable.
The newer dv2700 should be more reliable and last longer. It was the older dv2000 models that had motherboard issues and flaws, like what happened to my first one. They have fixed most of these flaws on the more recent models. It doesnt mean its bulletproof, any brand of laptop could have issues at any given time. -
Model: DV2214US
Specs: AMD Turion 64 X2 1.6GHz - NVIDIA GeForce Go 6150 - 1 GB RAM - 120 GB HD
Lifetime: 6 months
Issues: supposedly motherboard (wouldn't bootup and only blue lights would turn on)
Result: sent in for 2 repairs and will be getting a replacement -

And so immediately following the invention of internet, the online forum was born - a place where people can b itch back and forth at a moment's notice.
I.E. You're definitely right about that. My bro swears by HP laptops - he's even bought floor models that have lasted him years. And when you get a company so big, there are bound to be horror stories and failures. Especially when they start outsourcing. I'd say the average life expectancy is 3 years, which is average. My brother has always gotten AT LEAST 3 years of computer life among the 5 HP Pavilion's he's had. He also used them for graphic design if that's any indication of durability. -
Model: DV9500T
Specs: See Sig
Lifetime: 5+ months
Issues: None
Result: Happy with my purchase
