hello guys, i have just purchased a brand new DV-6 31XX series and its my first laptop after a good skills in the desktop world(over-clocking ,etc..)
and here is the specs :
i5 460 m 2.53 up to 2.8 (turbo)
4 gb ddr3 1066
500 gb hd
ati 5650 (switchable)
the problem is i have using a lot of tools to monitor the temps(core temp, real temp, everest ,..)
in most cases i got the following reading:
idle :48~50 c
full load gaming : 85~87C
the gpu is stable under gaming to 66c
I NEED TO KNOW IF THOSE THEMPS ARE OK FOR THIS LAPTOP OR ITS DEFECTIVE OR IT WILL BE FRIED SOON
many thanks for your support

Idle is a bit high, but that's more or less normal. It's not defective and that's not anywhere near the point where there will be damage (which is 105C, and it'll auto-shutdown then).

dear city pig,
your specs are similar to mine , whats your reading , please note that i live in a city were it 38c outside now -
-
so i think that those new dv6 3rd generation with i 5 are hot !!!!
can any body advise us ,please -

When you did first turn on the laptop??
Give it a week or two, allow the paste to cure.
Anyways on mine...
Idle 23~27C
Avg 35~38C ( 2 VM side by side + 2 IDE)
Full 75~77C
I agree with CityPig.
I blame the laptop design more of how heat is dissipated.
In my opinion, mobile cpu has a bit higher tolerance than their desktop counterparts. -
so the conclusion its normal for the I5 to reach 85 C!! under gaming ?
one of my friends just got dv6 3030 (i3) he never reach 70C?
i am afraid to play long time on it -
Does your friend live near you?
Your high temps are expected if your in a very warm climate. 87c isnt critically high, though you should use a cooling pad if your going to game for extended periods -
Tinderbox (UK) BAKED BEAN KING
I had an dv6-v3 and the fan sounded like a leaf blower, i returned it for a refund.

Dear Flipfire, yes we are in the same office,so the laptop can handle 85C ?? is it safe, sorry but comparing to the desktops it huge temps

guys i did something reduced the heat a lot i modified the power profile of the processor in the power plan and let it 99 % instead of 100% and now that prevent the processor to us the turbo boost mode and it stays at 2.5 I/O 2.8
and the temp is now MAX 77C -
DV-6 3140 is this heat too much or normal
