    I have a DV1580 with the Stock 100Gb 4200 HD and also a external case with a hitachi Travelstar 100Gb 5500 rpm

Will be a significant boost in performance to put the 5400 hd on the laptop?

    Thanks

From what I've heard, a 5400 rpm hard drive will be noticalby faster on your dv1000 then a 4200 rpm drive.

If it isn't that hard to switch 'em, why don't you give it a try? (I have a 100 GB 5400 drive on my dv1000t, and the computer is blazingly fast... but I also have duo core 1.83Ghz)

Good luck, let us know what happens...

I'll probably try it next week.

Curretly I see the HD LED on for too mutch time. The machine seems to be always waiting for HD information, even with 1Gb of RAM.

The Duo 1.83 is just a little bit faster than the 1.73 solo :))))

    Thanks

So if it were a 7200rpm drive it would be in superman's speed? :D

The switch from 4200rpm and 5400rpm will speed up your boot and response time will be much much better. I added 1gig memory and 80gig 5400rpm for my v4000 and its really soooo good...
