Bought a DV1000 (arrived today, I'll get a review out in a couple weeks, once I've been able to play with it) with 256mb to upgrade myself. Trying to choose how much to add.

    Choices are:

    1 - 256 (512 total w/ existing) ~$20-25
    2 - 256 (512 total, replace existing) ~$40-50
    1 - 512 (768 total w/ existing) ~$40-50
    2 - 512 (1GB total, replace existing) ~$85-100

Laptop will be mostly used for internet and office applications (including AUTOCAD), a little game-playing between class, and maybe some fire modeling applications.

I realize I probably don't need a full gig, and I'm leaning towards adding a single 512, but is there a performance advantage to having matched modules (ie: 2-256 modules vs. 1-512 and 1-256; or 2 identical 256 modules vs. mixed manufacturer 256 modules)?

    Thanks for the advice.

I would get a 1gb because I'm one impatient mother--. If it's a price issue, I would recommend the 512mb to total up to 768. That'll be sufficient for your every day tasks and dabbles in Autocad. :D

I have a DV1000 and have had if for about 2 weeks now. I like you only got 256 from hp and upgraded myself.
I had 2 sticks of 512 in it for a week. It was fast and worked smoothly. Unfortunatly one of my sticks was bad and now Im runing with one stick of 256 and a 512, not a huge difference but when using photoshop I noticed a slight lag.

If you have the extra money I would go with as much as you can.

I am thinking of ordering a 1 gig stick from zip zoom fly to go with my 512.

You can mix and match size and brand no performance differences. FYI It's PC2700
