I am really frustrated with dv1000.

I bought this laptop a month back and found that
wireless does not work when laptop is run with battery.
when I reported this problem, HP scheduled a repair.

Apparently the case was so badly handled that I had
to make around 50 calls to customer service and finally
HP+Fedex shipped it to Manufacturer (Shangai, china)

Customer service rep was literally forcing me to take
a heavy weight laptop and rejected the offer and I wanted
the same laptop. He would not give me my money back.

After so much of frustration, I found helpless and had
escalated the case to CEO of HP.

I was told that the case will resolved ASAP, and again here
they tested my patience. I had to call back again and again
to simply explain it to multiple people. No action
is taken. Strangely enough one day with no intimation
I got my money back.Whole ordeal took for a sweet one
month of time. I was atleast happy that I got my money.

Here I go, I made a mistake again, I ordered the same
DV1000 laptop with little upgrades. I recieved it today.
I just was trying to setup the wireless and the same
problem, wireless does not work if I operate it with
battery(remove AC power adapter). What a quality control
    from HP.

I called customer service center and only to listen
to their same old words. I decided to return the
    laptop back to HP.

Till now I bought three items from HP. None
of them arrived without a H/W problem.

Just wanted to share my experiences and am really
    frustrated with HP so far.

Did you check the Power Management settings for the wireless card? By default it is set to switch to the Maximum Battery setting (ie. Lowest Performance setting) when you run on battery power.

Many times the card will not work with certain routers when it is in this setting, but it will work fine when the setting is adjusted to Maximum Performance.

Do you have a Netgear router? The 814 routers from Netgear have problems with Centrino notebooks using the wireless on battery power.
Solution - go to the Netgear website and download the upgraded firmware for the router, install and voila problem solved.

I was going crazy with my new zt3000 for a week until stumbled across this lesser known problem.

    You are right RJharper,
I could not part with dv1000 because of it looks. We finally
decided to send my second laptop to service center to
get it repaired. Apparently, HP customer service dept
could not find any problem. And when I was going through
the netgear support page, I come across the firmware upgrade
page. Has fixes for centrino based systems.
HP sent me back my laptop and then upgraded my wireless
router and boom, Laptop started working like a charm.

Man I never anticipated this strange behavior could be a
router problem since laptop was working fine with power adapter.

    anyways happy ending after all
    thanks for your responses
