I'm about to order a DV1000 on HP Shopping and was wondering a few things...

    1. Am I correct to assume that since the remote is an extra item you can add that one is NOT included with the base config?

    2. What's the general consensus regarding the optional 12cel battery? Does the 6 cel seem to be plenty for most people? Is the 12 cel a lot bulkier?

    3. What's the word on HP's accidental damage coverage? Worth the extra $99 for one year of that?

    Thanks,
    M

The remote was in base config when it went onsale now it is seperate I believe. but not sure

The 12cell is DUMB it sticks out the bottom and puts the computer up at an angle. Get a second 6cell

no word on HP ADP yet. but I did see that if it is totalled then they can give you depreciated cash value. I think. Also you are limited to using it once for each part that it covers.

    eaadams,

thanks for the reply. Does HP offer the 6cel as seperate item you can buy, or only when you are ordering the laptop? I looked on their site and only the 12cel shows up on the accessories list. The reason I'm wondering is because I might get a 2nd one later.

From what I've read, the 12cell battery is more of a boone than a burden. It acts to boost the back of the laptop and tilt the keyboard toward you, which is more comfortable. If you've been looking around lately, you'll see a Sony laptop that is shaped like a wedge, for this very purpose. The other advantage of lifting the back of the laptop is improved ventillation (the cooling fan for the processor is on the bottom). Also, if you're using this as a multimedia machine, the extra battery life could be exceptionally useful for watching DVDs. It's probably worth it to pay the extra 25$ for the 12cell, and then order a less expensive 6cell later as a backup/secondary battery. Just remember Lithium Ion batteries have a set shelf life, eg. they die after a set ammount of time (a couple years I think), regardless of their usage. Consider this when deciding to by another battery.

I have the 12 cell battery and definitely prefer it because of the tilt. I am in college and it still fits in my bag w/ my other books. I am getting 7+ hours with the battery. It is basically preference, but the tilt makes it easier for me to type on and the extra battery life is a major perk.
