I believe the cpu fan from my sister’s DV1000 (DV1440US) is dead.

Two weeks ago it starts to make a strange noise (like a piece of paper touching the blades). The noise only happened after the computer runs for more than a half hour. When turn on the computer, the fan runs normal. The funny thing is, when the noise starts, if I flip down the notebook (screen down) the noise stops.

Yesterday she called me saying her notebook was shutting down constantly. After I tested, I noticed it's getting too hot! The fan wasn’t spinning at all (but was making a strange noise, like a fly or a electric noise, very low).

I start goggling for a replacement fan (part number 367795-001). At eBay only have refurbished ones and I don’t know if I can trust an used cpu fan (how much time will function before do the same thing?). The store NotebookParts.com has "New-Pull" one (whatever is this! It’s 'brand new'? It’s 'like new'?).
    Anybody recommend this store?

    Thanks in advance.

    You'd better use HP's part-surffer: http://partsurfer.hp.com/cgi-bin/spi/main
It could be that fan can be fixed easily, if you have a look at it. I would get HP's maintenance manual and open the laptop.

    Hi,

I removed the fan yesterday, with the help of Maintenance Manual.
For my surprise, it wasn’t dusty and didn’t look with any problem.
I thought the problem wasn’t the fan, but a tape placed between the fan and the motherboard. So I replaced that tape and mounted the notebook again. Everything worked fine, for about an hour, then the noise comes back and the fan locked again!

I tried the HP parts store as you suggested. They don’t have option to buy in Brazil, even having selling this notebook here. So, I simulate a purchase to United States. But after try place an order, I got the following feedback:
"Part Not Orderable"… This means I’m without options! I can’t found a replacement fan. Searching at google for a solution I found a lot of dv1000 users unhappy with exactly same problem.
This shouldn’t happen with a brand like HP.

    Regards.

I also have an fan problem on my M2000. I called the HP parts store but they didn't have it in stock. However, the guy I talked to told me I can order it from Ambry. So, I called Ambry and ordered the fan on its web site.
I would suggest you try Ambry, their web site is www.ambry.com, but I don't whether they will ship it to Brazil.

    Hi,

    Thanks for the reply!

Did you bought a new fan with them? They price is over 3 times higher then HP’s part store.
I found this other site, with say "part condition: Factory Direct", but I don’t know if is trustful:

    http://www.sparepartswarehouse.com/searchresults.aspx?pn=367795-001
    http://www.sparepartswarehouse.com/HP,Laptop,Part,367795001.aspx

They price isn’t much higher than suggested in HP's part-surffer (comparing with the price found at link posted by vassil_98).

    Regards.

I don't know whether it is new or not because I just order it today.
Well, i search the part from other sites too and their price are all higher than the HP parts store. So, I guess i don't have much choices.
