Hey everyone,
My mom just bought a brand new HP DV1000t from Costco.com and got it yesterday. It's loaded with XP Home and of course all the bloatware. I tried bringing over my full legit Volume License copy of Win XP Pro to do a clean install on her system. Unfortunately, after the XP Pro Disk does all of its initial setup scans, when you choose the option to do a clean install, it says Windows XP Pro can't find a working Hard Disk! WHHHAAAAT! I know there is one, cause it boots into XP Home fine. I also know the disk works, cause I've used it many times... so what is the deal? Is there something else I need to do? Do I need to pre-install a hard drive driver of some sort or change any settings in the BIOS? What am I missing?
Any and all help is TRULY appreciated!
Thanks in advance!

Just found out that the dv1000t has a SATA HDD which Windows XP doesn't support out of the box when installing.
You'll need to find some SATA drivers. -
So does that mean I'm screwed or is there a driver I can install int he beginning where XP asks you to hit F3 for Raid or SCSI drivers?
-
Check here:
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=SATA+driver+windows+XP+boot&btnG=Google+Search
Don't know for sure if one of those links will help, but googling for "SATA driver windows XP boot" should lead to an answer. -
Go into the BIOS setup and under configuration, disable Native SATA support. This should allow the XP install CD to read the drive. You can then enable the support once you have loaded the OS.
-
I hope you may change the BIOS setting as suggested above and have the problem solved. My DV4000 has very limited options in the BIOS setting (compare to other laptops and desktops). Anyway, I posted the driver link in the other forum you asked the exact same question. DV1000T uses Intel mobile 945 express chipset and the SATA driver can be found here.
-
I had the exact same problem. Even with the SATA drivers from Intel's site I had problems cleanly installing the OS because Windows install will only load updated drivers from a floppy drive and I don't have a floppy drive on the laptop. It also WON'T load the SATA drivers from a USB key or USB harddrive. I ended up using an application called NLite ( http://www.nliteos.com/) to create a new XP CD w/ the SATA drivers integrated onto them.
I got everything installed now, but I don't have drivers for the modem. HP doesn't have them on their site, and when I chatted w/ HP support, they told me that all DV1000s have the same modem and I should use the ones from the DV1000 since they were the same as the DV1000t. Well, they're not, so if anyone figures out where to get drivers for the modem, please let me know. HP support seems clueless on this.
Thanks. -
I know there will be a problem some time down the road when there is no floppy drive. I got one from SONY when it was ~$15 shipped several months ago. I wonder if you have checked the CD that came with your laptop. I found all the drivers on a CD as well as in the \SWSETUP directory. Instead stripping the original OS, I've added a second partition for clean installation of WinXP Pro (on my DV4000) while keeping old one. If you have to do a clean installation of OS, I'll first back up at least the SWSETUP directory.

Trust me. For the dv1000t (which I own). All you need to do is disable the SATA native support in the bios. I've tried it and it works like a charm. No need to get drivers, make slipstream cd, etc. Just change the setting.
HKINGS have you tried this? -
hi, I tried this method and intalled the system sucessfully, but when I changed back the "sata enable" in the bios. I got bluescreen!!! when I disabled it, It turned to be fine again. Anybody got the same situation like this?
-
Ubergeek,
I did try this and that solved the problem. However, there are some drivers that wont install... like Audio, Bluetooth, 3 Base System Device Items, and an SM Bus controller. I have donwloaded all the drivers from HP's site and every time I try to install the drivers it says failure for all those items! I NEED HELP ASAP! This is very frustrating... thanks in advance! -
Did you try installing XP SP2 first? I've actually updated my drivers from the HP site and all of them have worked sucessfully. The only thing I can think of (this is a reach) is that maybe the drivers work better with SP2.
The other thing is that you are using the drivers for the dv1000t and not the dv1000 right? -
Yeah, I tried before AND after SP2 and still no luck. I tried the drivers from DV1000t, not dv1000. Whats interesting htough is if you let HP's site try and recognize the PC it pulls up the DV1600. Kinda strange. HP's phone support is a joke and was no help at all. My mom may be returning for a different PC.
-
Can you post a screenshot of the bad devices in Device Manager? As for why it thinks its a 1600, the update software from HP probably hasn't been updated with the DV1000t specs. The drivers listed for the 1600 shares many with the dv1000t.
-
Ubrgeek,
I encountered the same problems as Hkings'. Most drivers of dv1000t or compaq v2000t don't match at all even though I installed sp2. I think you are a lucky one. I called HP, they said since it's new model, there's no recovery CD and drivers CD available right now until 1 month later. They offered me a option to send back my laptop for reloading the system and drivers. -
Wow, I am experiencing the same thing with my DV5000t, its true, if u disable sata in bios, you can install windows xp, but you can not re-enable it, for you will get the blue screen when trying to load windows. I am trying to find my sata drivers but i have no idea what kind of motherboard or chipset the dv5000t has. Does anyone know? and what about quickplay, does it still work for you guys?

I am working on the same thing for my DV5000t. The easiest way or best solution is to make our own XP cds with Nlite. I made a recovery DVD and found all INF in one place. Integrated them into on cd. made an iso with nlite and the comps boots to the cd. however once again it with Sata enabled nothing works. I even tried loading that cd to install windows and hopefully all my integrated drivers but no luck there either. Does anyone know where on the 5000T recovery DVD are the correct drivers. there is only one INF folder in the whole thing. I am almost positive i have the right drivers i just dont know why it won't load when i install XP.
-
For my DV1000T the SATA drivers are from INTEL 82801GBM SATA AHCI Controller. Goto the following site http://downloadfinder.intel.com/scripts-df-external/filter_results.aspx?strTypes=all&ProductID=1809&OSFullName=Windows*+XP+Professional&lang=eng&strOSs=44&submit=Go%21
Chose the first driver on the list.
Good Luck! -
The proper way to do a clean install for the DV1000T is to first burn a copy of the SWSETUP(All Drivers and Application Setups) an i386(WinXP Homne/Pro) directories on the HD. Then disable the the SATA Support in the BIOS, run the WinXP Setup. Install ann drivers and wanted Applications in the SWSETUP directory. The BIG problem is that you will get failed installations for the Modem and Sound card, the reason is they are now using Microsoft's Universal Audio Architecture(UAA) which needs to be downloaded and HP left them out of the SWSETUP directory (I beleive they have them Slipstreamed into the i386 Directory. it can be downloaded at http://h18007.www1.hp.com/support/files/hpcpqnk/us/download/23294.html?jumpid=reg_R1002_USEN
Once the UAA driver is installed you can reinstall the Modem and Audio drivers and you will have no problems. Once the Intel Sata drivers are installed you can re-enable SATA support in the BIOS for some speed improvements. DONE!
If you deleted the HD prior to saving the above two directories and did not make a Recovey Set you are SOL, if you did you can restore the system using the DVD's and the Directories will be present.
Also, if you delete the Recovey Partition, QuickPlay 2.0 will stop working, and there is NO option to restore this directory as well as Quickplay 2.0. This sucks because the Recovery Partition is 7.56GB and the Quickplay Partiton is 1GB. My suggestion is to use Ghost or Acronis TrueImage to make a backup of these Two important partitions.
Also if you search around the net you will find out how to create a Bootable OEM install dvd using the i386 directory. I also used NTLITE to creat a driver slipstreamed Install dvd for the SATA drivers and it works like a charm. -

docangle, i have a question for you. I am using the dv5000t. The sata drivers are the same. I used Device manager and a program to extract all drivers and the dv1000t and 5000t have same sata driver. I got an article and know how to slipstream the sata driver with windows, using the txtsetup.oem and inf files. At least it should work. my question is how do slip stream the other drivers? Since all the DLL and sys for each driver are in the same folder as the inf, to i just show nlite where the inf files are and thats it? Do i have to drag some files and move them around, then show nlite where the inf is? I am very confused about this. any info would be great.

I think they started charging for the recovery CD. Now it is listed as an option when you place an order.
-
Interesting, I did not see it as an option when I ordered. I just received my computer yesterday and am having trouble completing the last disk. Now I may have to pay to buy theirs?
-
It was mentioned on another recent thread that now they put it as an option.
-
tThey asked me to call back later and ask for recovery and drivers cds, but now it's an option on Hp website. Maybe they forget to say "just pay for it"
-
THe driver is no longer downloadable...has Intel pulled it? WTF? -
-
Forget purchasing the recovery CD, it's a waste of $10. It only contains the OS - NO DRIVERS. Just create the Recovery Discs as HP suggests.

Great post GURU
I am in exactly the same boat. I just purchased a HP Pavillion DV1610TN notebook complete with all the bloatwear ! Since reading this post I have made close to 10 drink coasters ! I have been experimenting with the appropriate SATA drivers "http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?lc=en&cc=au&dlc=en&os=228&product=1840941&lang=en&softwareitem=ob-39535-1"
and Nlite with no luck. "Guru" states "I ended up using an application called NLite ( http://www.nliteos.com/) to create a new XP CD w/ the SATA drivers integrated onto them"
I would appreciate if anyone could tell me how.I intergrate the drivers in NLite but the install stops with the error "ISAPNP.SYS is corrupted.
Any help would be greatly appreciated

Hi, I'm new to notebooks.
I just got my dv1650ca and have been trying to install a fresh xp pro.
This is what i've found:
1) turning off SATA support in the bios works, but u can't install the sata drivers for it after xp loads. everything else works fine
2) turning on SATA support in the bios and using nlite to have sata support while installing xp works, but u can't install the audio/modem drivers for it after xp loads.
so this is the dilemma, can someone please help me???
thx -
The easiest way to deal with this issue:
- Get a USB floppy disk drive
- Download driver from HP
- Put driver on floppy
- Do clean Windows install (leave BIOS as is)
- When it asks if you need to load any extra drivers, select that option.
- Insert floppy
- Select correct driver (mobile; it's in the readme on HP's site)
- Proceed as usual
No bios switching, or load hacks. Plain and simple and fast.
if you don't have a usb floppy drive, you can get them all over the place...best buy, etc. If you are a real cheapster, but it, use it and return it (assuming you never want to rebuild that machine again from scratch).
I have found a USB floppy drive comes in handy from time to time.
By the way, the DV1000T rocks. -
Why not just leave the initial install, and use add/remove to get rid of the bloat?
-
People buy the laptop with XP Home to save money, then install their version of XP Pro.
Also, even if you remove the bloatware, there can still be issues. And you might want to recover that 10GB of lost space for recovery partitions.
There are a lot of reasons to do this. I do it because I get better performance and control from a clean install. -
Can I just burn the recovery files into a DVD and then delete the recovery partition?

I've been using RyanVM's integrator for integration work and making final tweaks and compiling the install DVD with nLite.
I've attached a VMWare Player file that I found on the MSFN forums (I can't find the original message, props to whoever made it) that you can use to test your install discs on a 4GB virtual HD. You can't test the driver integration since VMWare won't use them but it's extremely handy for making sure you got everything else right. You might want to disconnect Ethernet in the (free!) VMWare Player to keep your test installation from phoning home to Microsoft.
The RunOnceEx.cmd file I attached uses the switchless .NET installers from RyanVM but everything else is stock. As a rule I prefer to avoid repacks. I'm not entirely positive that the QuickLaunch and Lightscribe installation works but everything else has been tested.
Anyhow, RyanVM's been doing some great work, be sure to PayPal him a few bucks in support.Attached Files:

Any new ideas?
I have an idea: howabout extracting all the .inf files from all the drivers from your model's HP support page. And then inserting them as drivers using nlite?
If this thing pulls through then there wouldn't be any more need for additional driver downloads..... -
It is good that I hit this thread. I am going to order dv1000t from Costco and will do a clean install of XP later on.
Mike, are you referring to the SATA dirver listed here
BTW, very very useful site. Good job; all the users, contributors and the admins. -
Well, I have the DV8000T, which presents with the same problem of SATA drivers. I tried slipstreaming the drivers using nlite (two .inf files), the cd burns fine, the installation loads, but then, I try to press F6 to install 3rd party raid drivers and the keystroke does not seem to do anything. Then setup loads a bunch of drivers, and couple of minutes later it pops the message that I have no hard drive installed and if offers me to install one...using a floppy, as we all know.
-
I don't have it memorized if you have to check it or not, but one will disable the 3rd party raid drivers installation. Try making a new installer and click on the help icon and read the info first. -
That may be the one you noted; I'm not sure.
