Alright,so I was bored, and started browsing HPs site (or rather,I went on the AMD site and shopped by the Athlon Neo processor so I could see if anyone else is selling notebooks with that chip),but ended up at the HP site.
Anyway,I noticed that HP has all 3 processors for the DV2 now (they did only have 2 options before, but now its rather 4 options, since 1 CPU can be paired with either GPU),the single core Athlon Neo,Dual Core Athlon Neo X2 (both of these with 512 KB cache) and Dual Core Turion Neo (1 MB cache). All of these are 1.6 ghz. The single core Athlon has to come with the Radeon X1250,the dual core Athlon can come with either that,or the Radeon 3410,and the Dual core Turion X2 has to get the Radeon 3410.
A few points to make
1. HP currently has the GPU selection off their customization menu. So you cant choose what GPU you want anyway. However,if you click the button to customize the base model, youll get the X1250,and if you click the Recommended model, youll get the 3410. But its still dumb that the GPU option isnt in the menu.
2. Why is the GPU locked to certain processors? The single core Athlon Neo is paired with the 3410,and sold all over the internet, including NewEgg and Walmart, so its not a technical incompatibility. They just want the fast GPU with the fast CPU. It sounds fair enough, but I say give the consumer what they want. (I would personally opt for the Turion X2 and 3410 anyway, but just saying...someone might want the faster CPU but with the X1250 to counteract the extra drain in battery life).
Anyway,I think that HP has some failure written on the DV2 customization page...
DV2 Customization = Fail
