I have been wanting a new laptop for awhile now and finally decided on the HP DV2-1110US model. This is the model with the AMD Athlon Neo single core processor.
To cut to the chase, I am VERY disappointed with this processor. This processor behaves very oddly. At times, it is zippy. At other times, it seems to stall before performing tasks. Like uninstalling small programs, it will sometimes sit there for 2-3 minutes before starting the uninstall. That's my main complaint - the processor seems to 'take a break' at times for no apparent reason. Is this normal? Maybe I am expecting too much but I just do not see why it seems to stall all the time. My 2 year old Gateway with a Pentium M processor is slow at times but it always seems to be doing something. This thing seems to sit there for minutes at a time without doing anything, almost like it stops responding.
Check out this quote from a review on TechAge. This mirrors my experience.
"I've used a fair amount of netbooks over the past year and a half, and all up to this point have used Intel's Atom. While AMD's Athlon Neo 64 is similar in some regards (especially frequency), what it lacks is any form of multi-threading capabilities, which Intel's Atom has. The reason I believe this causes some concern, is because all throughout the time I used the notebook, I often ran into snags where applications would suddenly go "Not Responding".
Has anyone else experienced this?
Most of my other impressions are positive. Great screen, great keyboard, HDMI, great wireless range and speed...It does not run as hot with the latest BIOS update. Way too much bloatware...runs much better after lots of cleanup...
