My brother's DV2000 is crashing with a screen glitch. These crashes have become more frequent every occurence. The crashes leave the screen like the picture included. After an attempted reboot the screen will not display anything, after waiting an extended period of time the laptop will be able to boot but another crash is inevitable. Just wondering what's going on here, which components may be busted etc. Thanks for the help.

Yep it's busted. If it's still under warranty call the support line so you can send it to them. I had the same thing happend with a Compaq v3000. They will pay for shipping, send/return.

Upon further inspection it seems that the problem is a overheating video card(6150). Right after a boot the cards temp is already 82 degrees celsius(180 F). It seems like the fan on the HP doesn't really run all that loudly so I'm wondering if there are any settings for the fan to make it run faster? Also how do you access the bios for the dv2000? I've tried F10 and del, which key and when should I press?

Out of the blue some Corporate guy called and said that their repair facility back east couldn't figure out what happened and sent it to them in Texas for further evaluation. I guess they're looking at quality control. At the end they gave me a Pavilion equivalent with extras. The whole episode took a week and a half. I told them I have a 4 year old AVERATEC that didn't give me this much trouble. Loved the all black Compaq though.
