i have a dv2000. huge problem. a couple weeks ago the quickplay started going off by itself. the software will start up and the mute goes crazy, mute unmute mute unmute...., the volume will go up and down.

this happens when my hands are off the keyboard, typing, watching some not even touching the laptop. drives me insane! i have to close the software all the time. can't watch movies or listen to music cause of the mute and volume play around and grr!

i can disable the software, the software won't pop up, great. but i can't seem to find a way to disable all of it. so the volume and mute stop bugging the crap out of me.

i can't disable it in the device manager, not in the bios. i'm totally lost!

You can disable or uninstall the quick launch buttons on the device manager under Human Interface Devices and/or Keyboards

You quicklaunch button cable must be faulty, its a known issue

I'm having a problem on my dv6500 where I brush against the quickplay button as I am typing, and my document is replaced by the quickplay application. A big pain.
So I am interested in disabling QP, as I do not use the app very often. I found the place to do it, but 'disable' is grayed out, leaving uninstall as the only option.

If I disable quickplay in HID, will these semifunctional volume buttons on the right still work, or would I only be able to change volume using the toolbar(which would be fine)?
Also, once uninstalled, would that cause a series of other problems to arise? Could I still play DVDs?
Is it easy enough to reinstall?
I live in constant fear of irreparably altering my laptop.

I am having similar problems with the buttons either not working or muting/un-muting without ever touching the buttons.

This is a common problem with Quickplay? I guess I wouldn’t mind completely uninstalling this functionality but it would be nice if it worked. Anyone end up fixing this somehow?

Yeah, the Quickplay buttons are being lame on mine too.

They don't make that beep that they're supposed to (Or did they get rid of that on the new models ?)

My Quickplay, DVD Button, nor my Media Center button do not work AT ALL. (On the Quicktouch panel or my remote)

Yes as far as i know it will still work if you uninstall QP. The multimedia keys on the right side is actually part of the keyboard (like the extra keys on a ext. multimedia keyboard). You can try disabling/uninstalling the Quicklaunch button drivers first.

You can always easily re-install QLB and QP in the C:/SWsetup folder anyway

Have you updated the Quick Launch Button drivers? If its randomly muting/unmuting on its own then it might be a hardware problem.

Have you updated the Quick Launch Button drivers?
