Greetings all. New to the forums but not to computers. Just have a couple questions regarding my dv2000/2315nr.
I know about the heat issues and since I just use this for forums and lite web surfing, it's been fine since I blew it out. I've just been having an issue with the restarting, in general, of it. Sometimes it takes me 5 or 6 restarts, before it will boot. The only thing that kicks on is the fan and the power led.
Also, due to the wifi issue,I'm having to use a Belkin N+ dongle. Yes it does it's job and does it will, but I have a Broadcom BCM4311 wifi card I bought for a HP Mini 311...Would it work?? I put it in, but during bootup it said it's an unauthorized wifi card(or something to that effect). I had to flash the bios of the 311 for card to work, is this possible with the DV2??
I bought this laptop second hand, and the previous owner has had it for a few years.
Running W7 Home Premium x86 (Legal)
Any help would be awesome. Thanks

Couple of questions, whats the original WIFI Issue that you're having? Also, when you say it takes a long time to boot, is this before or after the HP Logo.
Heres why it matters. If your wireless light on the machine goes orange and stays orange no matter what you do, you could have an issue with your logicboard. The DV2000, Dv6000, and DV9000 has alot of logicboard issues regarding Wireless, and Video Chipsets.
Also, for some reason HP's don't load friendly with USB Devices being plugged in during the POST (When you see the HP Logo). Your best bet is to unplug all USB Devices on startup and plug them back in when the machine is at the login screen.
If I have my Galaxy Tab plugged into my HP Notebook it will not load at all instead it will just stay on the HP Logo Permanently. I've had this issue with multiple HP's not just one. -
Thanks for the reply game64.
When I boot it, the hdd led will not blink and the machine will not boot. I have to keep holding tuning it on/off by holding the power button for a few seconds. Seems to work after about 5 tries.
The wifi worked once when I got it, new the issue existed, but i have my dongle. It probably is the logic board. It just stays orange no mater what I do.
And I'm aware of the boot problems experienced with some USB things pugged in, i.e my WD external drive.lol
Thanks
Clearer?? -
Yup clear... I hate to say this man but it sounds like the logicboard is bad. When the Wireless doesn't turn on (with anything) that means the Northbridge on the motherboard had failed (As far as I can recall).
The typical issue with DVXXXX series laptops is they overheat and the northbridge or graphics chipset unsolder themselves from the logicboard. Which causes the Mini PCI port to not start and the issue also effects video.
When you turn it off and on multiple times the solder is heating up and expanding to fill the small cracks in the faulty solder.
This is atleast from what I recall. I could be wrong, but it sure sounds like the case. Now-A-Days they have 100$ Motherboard repair on EBay and DV2XXX logicboards for cheap. If you're ok with getting your hands dirty you could probably swap one out in under 2 hours. -
What is bugging me is the fact that I have to turn it on/off so many times b4 the hdd will spin. Any help for this?? I have to turn it on/off 4-7(wnt up) times b4 it will come on. The fan spins, dvd drive blinks, but no hdd led and no boot. Help??
I'm fine with getting my hands dirty, hell, I love doing it..lol..Gonna take it apart today sometime and blow it out again. Last blowout was just thru the vents and such..need to actually open it this time..lol
Thanks for the help anyway, but I still need more..lol
And the solder the y used on the chips is ridiculous..you would think they learned from M$ and the first gen 360's...same thing..lol
