Wasn't sure where to post this but this seems like a good place for now...
I've had this problem for a while now with my HP Pavilion DV2000. Watching certain dvix video files results in playback that is annoyingly choppy. The video pauses every few seconds or the video becomes distorted and takes a few seconds to correct itself. For the longest time I thought it was a codec issue but using a variety of codec packages/media players never solved the problem.
Yesterday I tried running the divx file type that often caused problems off of a USB stick instead of my harddrive and problem solved...Anybody have any ideas?

What Mediaplayer are you using?

VLC
I don't really see how that's related because, as I said, I've tried using variety of players and am pretty sure its not a codec issue. -

The only thing I can think of is, if you're running WinXP, to check in Device Manager that your HD interface hasn't slipped into PIO (Programmed I/O) mode. It should be DMA (Direct Memory Access). I'm not sure that's even an option anymore in this age of SATA drives and Vista.
Some background task might be hitting the hard drive often enough to mess up video playback but that seems unlikely too.
