Just spent over two hours with HP customer service trying to get my firewire port to work on my new DV2000t. No luck. They wanted to send it in for repairs. Obviously, "thanks, but no thanks!" Supposed to get a call from an HP 'case manager' about a return. This is the second one, btw. The first one was returned due to the SEC screen. (The second is a SEC, too.)
My concern: I bought the second notebook on a now expired 15% off discount. What's the best way to exchange the laptop so that this discount will be honored?

If you or anyone you know is a student you can use the academic purchase plan discount which is like 12% I think. Sucks that you're having problems with your DV2000T. I had an SEC screen too that is in being swapped along with me picking up the Vista Express upgrade. It's almost like HP gives the crappiest screens to the people who deck out their DV2000T the most, what sense does that make. The 2 GB RAM upgrade should come with a QDS screen, lol.

I know about the APP discount, but it still falls short by about 70$ of the deal I got. I was just curious whether one could ask them for a straightforward direct exchange--feature for feature, price for price.

If you're beyond the 21 day exchange window, sending the unit in for repair is the offical postition you're going to get. (unless your real lucky)
If you're within the 21-day return window.... then they should give you the same deal... -
I've had the notebook for a week. Don't they typically encourage you to make an order on your own, though, which leaves you in the lurch with the discount? I hope that when I speak to the "case manager" tomorrow, I can get him to either give me appropriate credit or a direct exchange. Can one do the same over the phone with the general HP sales staff?

Since you're within the 21-day
return window you shouldn't get too much flak..... At this point in time you have the option to demand your money back.
Thing is a week old and they want you to send it in for repair?... They must think you're a sucker... or stupid or something...
Don't know if the general sales staff can do much on a return and a adjustment.... (Worth a shot though)... I would think they should be able to do it since you're within the 21-day return window... and I would assume this is a common occurance. (Defective unit +Coupon/discount used)... It's not your fault that the coupon has expired, that the FireWire port is having problems. Sales department should be able to enter the amount of discount in manually.
