I'm looking to buy one, of course.

So that only issues so far are the screen, and the touchpad, yes?

Ordering it through HP would get me the cheapest deal (APP, and 10% off discount), but is it worth the hassle just for the screen?

Here's a pic I found of the SEC (left) vs. AUO (right):

The dreaded SEC screen, and very sensitive touchpad.

That's all that I've come across on this board so far.

    I concur with night_2004...............

I have had absolutely no problems with my dv2000t, the touch pad is trouble-free, the screen is crisp and clear, this is my 3rd HP notebook I have owned and this one is by far the best, and got a great deal on it at Sam's Club for $838 :D

Nope those seem to be the only two major complaints people on this board have. For my money neither of these is a real problem. The touchpad has some great adjustment controls to make it suit you better -- though it may be that a few people have a genuinely defective touchpad. Personally, I hate all touchpads, but the one on my dv2000t is no more annoying than any other. As for the screens, I haven't heard of anyone getting a screen recently that could be described as "bad," the way some of the older screens were. Yes, some are brighter than others, and if you have multiple systems sitting side by side, you may prefer one over the other, but again, in real usage you would never know if people on this board didn't discuss it to death.

So, don't let our nitpicking make you fear the dv2000t notebook. It's an amazing machine -- we just spend a lot of time discussing the couple of things we don't like as much as everything else about the notebook.

I'm tempted to order one right now, regardless. The price just cannot be beat.

I'll fight HP to death on the screen if it is indeed "bad."

Oh yeah, does HP have a 21-day return policy for each notebook that you buy? I'm asking this because, hypothetically, if I return the first one I get within 21 days, does a new 21-day policy become enforced?

    Hot linking to my photos?!

    Bad person! Bad, bad person!

    Just kidding...

    ;) :p

Seriously, though, those two computers pictured are mine, and I took the picture after doing some tests between the SEC notebook and the AUO notebook, to see how bad they (the SEC screen) really are.

The SEC was horrid after I bought my dv2000t with the AUO screen, and seeing the difference of the two. I was suddenly like "WTF? Why is this one SOOO much better?!" then I learned the differences in notebook screens.

I recommend if that if you do get an SEC screen, you return and try for a new screen.

The dv2000t is one of the best notebooks out there currently, so it's worth the waiting and returns to get a good screen on a good notebook.

As for the touch pad problems, my dv2000t hasn't had any problems in that are.

The newer SEC screen aren't bad at all. They are slightly dimmer than the QDS and AUO screens, but the viewing angles seem better and they have less digital noise associated with motion from what I've observed so far. Colors are spot on and I did not have to make any adjustments from the default using Monitor Calibration Wizard. I have now had 1 bad SEC, one decent AUO, and one decent SEC.

I went to BestBuy today, and they had the DV2125NR on display. The screen itself looked pretty good, but I couldn't find out exactly what screen it was because of a stupid overview video that they had playing.

4ceFed4, does HP give you a 21-day return policy for each new notebook that you buy after the initial return?

That is in no way how my SEC screen looks. I don't no what is wrong with that picture, but It makes the SEC screen and the AUO screen look very bad. My SEC looks 10 Times better than that.

Yea, when you return a computer it's not like you are doing an exchange. You are ending one transaction and beginning a new one. Unfortuanately that means you have to wait for your new computer to be built in China all over again.

Like I said, I'll battle them to the death over the screen. But that is indeed good news because with this notebook, the hassle seems worth it.
