Have had start-up problems last two days on my DV2000T (see signature for specs). The following occurs every time: at first, initial power-up, there is a blank desktop image screen with no programs loading up; then, upon clicking the power button the laptop hibernates; clicking the power button again resumes Windows with all of the programs running seemingly normal except for two things: no wireless connectivity and both windows and zone alarm firewalls turned off (both are typically on by default). After I bring back one or both of the firewalls and restore wireless connectivity through repairing the connection, everything seems to work fine. Anti-virus (Avast) and anti-spy (ad-aware) scans turn up nothing unusual. What could be causing this behavior? Thanks!

It's probably a power management issue. Try changing settings to default, for whichever power management program you use. Does this problem occur both on AC power, and battery?

Seems to me an issue with the firewalls. You should have either one of the firewall enabled and not both. Multiple firewalls cannot co-exist with each other.
Its possible that zonealarm is creating an issue, try reinstalling or uninstall zonealarm and double check.

Thanks for the replies. I'm able to fix the wireless connection issue by turning off Zone Alarm--for whatever reason it does not allow me now to connect to the internet.
I am still having problems, however, with the start-up. My power management settings are normal, and the issues described above occur both on battery and on AC power. Through patience, I've discovered that the programs do eventually load up with the FIRST, initial start-up, but only after at least 5 minutes of seeing a blank desktop screen. Any other guesses as to what may be suddenly causing such a slow start-up and how I can fix it? Thanks -
Seems like there is an app which is causing windows to wait or pause form loading the other start-up programs. You need to go through your event logs and carefully disable un-needed start-up apps through msconfig.
The black desktop screen signifies there is an app causing the delay. The delay could also be due to an un-used driver or previously un-installed app that windows tries to load. -
It might also be a program that you have installed in the last few days.
