it has 32mb dedicated and 96 for shared ram, vista aero glass requires 128, so does this count? will this card run the aero glass smoothly? if so i am going to buy the notebook i need a definiate answer on this so i can decide. also is the 14.1 version going to run warmer than the 15.4 version since its smaller?

No definiate answer about vista until it final release. Even it is shared 128 MB, it is enough at least beta 2 says so. 2 GB memory make much smooth than 256 MB GPU.

I should say HP manage the heat pretty well. I don't know 15.4", but mine V2000z is real cool.

128M dedicated or shared will work.

It should. The 6150 in the V3000z ran Vista pretty well except for the fact that there werent any WDDM certified drivers available for the video. So Aero didnt run. But I expect driver issues to be solved before it hits the shelf. If the 6150 can handle it, then most definately the 7200 is more than capable enough. Make sure you get 1GB+ RAM. I tried running it with 512MB and it was as slow as molasses in Jan.

It should. Unless the world suddenly decides 64bit is the way to go which seems unlikely for the next year(maybe 2) or so...

Merom - Probably. HP has to release a BIOS upgrade for it, which they probably will.

Hotter - Shouldn't be - not much if at all.

well you figure if they do along with most any company dont release bios they will have tons of mad customers that will take business elsewere for the lack of support so you'd "think" that most comapnies will

Yes, thats what I plan on doing as well. Upgrade to Vista and pick up Merom cheap sometime next year after/just before Intel updates to Santa Rosa.

The 14.1 wont necessarily run hot, but with the 15.4" model HP might have used a better cooling system since they will have a little bit more space available. But I would think they most likely use the same setup as the 14" just to keep the costs down.

A motherboard company like DFI or Shuttle, yes. Most people don't even think they can upgrade their laptop processor, much less attempt it, and it will probably void the warranty.

They may well say "Nope, the DV2100tt is core 2 duo, and the DV2000t is core duo only, buy a DV2100tt instead".

That said, I know Sledgehammer got a Merom BIOS for his DV8000t, so I doubt it will be a problem, but it's not a guarantee.

Eventhough, who will be trusted? Reflashing BIOS is bit of risky if it is not "fully" tested.

Adding on to what Rockharder said, flashing the BIOS incorrectly may lead to a fried motherboard which will mean big repair bills.

Possible, but unlikely - for the reasons stated above - most people won't want to release a custom BIOS and take the risk that you'll just say "Well, thanks for supporting Merom, if it ends up erasing your data for frying you GPU, or . . ."

Let's just say that I have NEVER heard of anyone doing it. I don't recommend it, but it might be possible that you could flash a DV8000 BIOS on the DV2000 laptop and it might work, but it would be at your own risk (and maybe 50-50 chance of success, and 50-50 chance of recovery if it failed).

Doubtful, but you can ask. Worst they can do is say no. (Well, I suppost the worst they could do is deny the other discounts b/c you made them mad, but . . .)
