    Hello all!

I just received my DV2000T and unfortunatly I'm not too happy with the build quality (IMO). That said, I've obtained a RMA# from HP and will be shipping it off today.

Does anyone know the turnaround time for refunds to your credit card? Please don't tell me it takes like 30 days?!

Thanks in advance for the wealth of info here!

    chris

Less than a week. They usually credit to your account the very next day after your RMA is received by them.

    miner,

    thanks for your prompt response!

I checked the status and it says, "Return/Credit Complete"

I checked my account, but I have yet to receive the credit....hmm

Well, it has to be processed before the money gets credited, so I would wait 2 -3 days and if it hasnt been credited then call and check with HP.

    Hey Penetrode,

Can you be more specific on what you dont like about the build? I am thinking of either getting an acer from my local staples thats on sale or ordering a dv2000t so you info would help me out. Thanks.

    Josh,

    The following is my opinion:

No offense to any of the owners out there, but I thought overall the DV2000T is cheaply put together. Don't get me wrong, this laptop is feature packed, but with all those features, they have to cut costs somewhere.

Here are some of the few problems I encountered only after 24 hrs.

    1) There is very annoying screeching sound that the laptop emits. I know i've read about this issue before, which is supposedly prevelant in the Core 2's.

    2) LCD Screen is a LG and pretty much sucks when compared next to a lenovo. I also noticed that the left side of the screen is dimmer than the right side

    3) Plastic pieces are very cheap. If you look at the edges of the laptop borders you can see where each of these pieces were separated (cut out) because they are slightly raised. It looks like when each plastic piece was cut, they forgot to smooth the edges.

    4) When the laptop is closed, there are several spots/marks/scratches about the size of grains of salt all over the top. I thought this thing was brand new?

    5) The s-video input isn't aligned properly with the cut out hole. Its way off.

    6) The black glossy paint used on the lcd border is really really cheap and gives the laptop a toy like feel.

    7) The track pad is a joke. There are several deadspots on the pad. Although I loved the buttons.

    8) Keyboard is very cheap. I get more play out of my 18.99 microsoft desktop keyboard.

    9) Could HP have made the speaker casing a bit more uglier? Grab your chainmail armour and your joust… the thing looks medieval.

    10) How about you make the laptop all one color instead of making it look like a fischer price toy.

Again these are just my humble opinions. I use a HP/Compaq NC8230 at work and its head and shoulders above this laptop. I don't know if it's consumer laptops that are like this and business laptops are better quality. I can't speak for the rest of the pavillion line, but in my experience i'd steer clear from the DV2000T.

It's a feature packed laptop, but it's cheaply made and the attention to detail just isn't there. HP has made huge strides in quality, but their laptops aren't thinkpads. Where is the wow-factor? I guess I was expecting too much from a budget laptop at that pricepoint.

Looks good on paper thats about it.

    Flame me not.

Another "humble personal opinion" in response to the points you raise:

    1) My Core 2 Duo 7200 makes no screeching sound.
    2) My SEC screen, which is on the whole even of poorer quality than LPLs, does not suffer from 'uneveness.' While not as bright and vivid as other screen models (especially QDS), it serves my everyday needs well, though I do wish I had a non-SEC screen.
    3) My exterior gives me no perception of cheapness--but that whole matter is just that: perception!
    4) No marks, scratches etc on my top.
    5) My s-video output fits well.
    6) Same response as to 4)
    7) The trackpad works well, not perfectly but well--no deadspots!
    8) Same response as to 4)
    9) Same response as to 4)
    10) Same response as to 4)
    ------------------------
I have my own quirks with my particular HP DV2000t models (I've noted them in my previous posts), but many of those that you bring up seem to indicate that you have received an older, used model (scratches seem to be an especially salient sign pointing to this conclusion). Many of the complaints you raise are those reported by users in the summer and seem to have been taken care of by HP, except of course for aesthetic considerations--which are just that: aesthetic.

Curious whether your shipment came from China or from Tennessee. If the latter, the possibility I am suggesting is greater in likelihood.

It was shipped from China. The spots on the cover look almost like air bubbles...

    I guess I got unlucky...
