Anyone here upgrade a v2000z from XP to Vista? I'm getting a new 160GB (from 80gb) hard drive and thinking of installing Vista on it instead of reinstalling XP. I see the Vista drivers thread and it looks like it's possible but there are some posts about not being able to use the Quickplay buttons on the top. Just curious if there are some quirks or should I just stick with XP?

You can use the buttons at the top, you just can't program them for anything else. I'd highly recommend you upgrade! :)

You are going to be able to upgrade, since the V2000z is not that old. The Quickplay buttons do work. What don't work is the capability to run quickplay with out having to boot to Windows. For some reason Vista doesn't allow you to that. But you still can use Quickplay under Vista.

also i notice i have that X:\ drive partition which i believe is for quickplay. do i need to recreate that partition? or is just for not having to boot to windows?

If you currently have it installed, when ever you install Vista just leave it the way it its, don't touch that partition. When I installed Vista on my computer I had 3 partitions 1)Windows XP 2)Recovery Console 3)Quick play (1024mb).
SO I just deleted 1 and 2, created a new one and installed Vista.

"The order of the partitions might be different in your computer. I used this numbers as an example."

Do you have the Compaq V2000Z or the HP DV2000Z?? Because the V2000Z didnt include Quickplay nor any of the Quickplay buttons. If it is the DV2000Z then you can safely delete the Quickplay as well as the restore partitions. it is not necessary and Quickplay direct wont really work with Vista. You can download the drivers from HP's website including the Quicklaunch button drivers. This will enable the top row media buttons to function.

You could make it a dual boot system and have the best of both worlds.

The good news, is that each OS can see the other as a drive letter. So your space is not wasted.

i installed Vista and love it thus far. only drivers i installed thus far is the nvidia video driver. i'll go to HP and look for additional drivers but thus far my DVD+ disk couldn't be detected. a normal CD was detected but it didn't read my dvd+ disk which was odd.

i swapped out my Vista hard drive and put in my XP hard disk and it read the DVD just fine (which is where i burned it). any ideas which driver should fix this? i don't see anything easily identifiable on the HP site nor in the SWSetup folder I backed up.
