    ----------------------------------------------------------------
I went with the Core duo 2250 1.73 because i dont do anything really cpu intense i mean most intense thing i run is probably sims 2, photoshop which arent cpu intense so upgrading to the T2400 for 75 dollars i would probably never notice.

I went with the lowest 512mb of ram and 40gb hdd because I am buying a Hitachi Travelstar 7k100 7200rpm 100gb hdd from ewiz.com and also buying a 1gb PNY PC-4200 stick of ram from work.

I went without the webcam because i'd never use that feature and if in a year or so i decide i need one i can buy one of those small ones that attach to a notebook but i doubt i'd even do that.

    SUBTOTAL WAS: $858.79

    TAX: $63.12

    GRAND TOTAL: $921.91

+ 50.00 rebate so after rebate will be $871.91

then adding in costs for Hitachi Travelstar 100GB 7200RPM HDD + 190.00
Plus 1GB STICK OF PNY ddr2 ram + 90 + 30.00 mail in rebate so 60 for that
Plus 2 year warranty w/ screen protection from work at "store" cost 89.99

So after 2 year warranty with the ram upgrade and 7200RPM harddrive and after all rebates total cost will be $1221.91

not bad if i must say so myself :)

thanks for all the help too everyone :D

Let us know how you like the Hitachi HDD. I've read a few reviews of it that said it was a bit louder than the stock HDD on the dv2000t, but I've seen others that said it was fine... Thanks.

Should have went with Windows XP Pro for that processor. Windows XP Home wasn't designed for SMP or dual/multi-core processing.

You should also order from someone else, if you must have a Windows PC. HP has some pretty bad quality control issues, like sticking keyboards, and in my case, using old and slow USB 2.0 controllers that only reach half of their potential speed.

If you need Windows, honestly, cancel the order and go with someone else. But I'd recommend cancelling and going with a Mac. You can still install Windows if you need to, but you'll at least get a computer thats well built and virus/spyware free.

Well, DV2000=New keyboard, and pretty much different everything compared to your DV5000z. And XP Home is fine for dual core. You only need Pro if you're using multiple processors.

Also, that's a pretty good price. I wish HP business notebooks could have looks like the DV2000. Although, I don't think most people would buy something like that.

windows xp home is fine for dual core processors half the people who own core duo processors have xp home on their pc. and as far as the keyboard the new keyboard is supposed to fix some problems people had with dv5000. As far as all the bloatware if you know how to remove and get rid of it all its not a problem

Your problems were related to the dv5000, not the dv2000t. They use totally different keyboards. The USB issue was related to the ATi chipset, not HP. If you bought any computer with that ATi chipset you would likely have the same issues. As for Macbook, it comes with its own set of problems. It has been in the news for overheating, the magnetic power cords causing fires, discoloration of the palm rest, flaking on the black macbooks. Plus the disadvantage of the CPU being soldered onto the MB, so upgrade to Core 2 Duo is impossible.

The virus/spyware issue is totally misleading. Just because you own a Windows based system, doesnt mean you will get viruses/spyware.

Windows XP Home with SP2 is capable of using dual core processors. Win XP Pro is needed only for dual processor solutions.

Yup, my bad. I always read that XP Home didn't support dual core, but Microsoft says it does. However, XP Home will only have support for two years after Vista is released. XP Pro will have 4 years if I recall correctly.

AS much as these notebooks cost, HP should fix the problems us current owners have.

I shouldn't have to reformat my system as soon as I get it. I shouldn't have to uninstall so much software that it leaves behind traces of itself and it's overall better to just reformat and start over.

Didn't you read the threads I posted and the last big thread I posted in that was a poll? HP could have chosen to use a different south bridge chip, but instead opted for the cheaper ATI chip. HP knowingly chose the SB400 instead of the chip that fixed the problem. THat is HP's fault.

Conveniently, the Anti-Apple crowd ignore all confirmation of this "issue" being overblown and that the Macbook gets no warmer, on average, than anyother Core Duo based system. Infact, there was a story posted on digg where a Macbook owner compared his MacBook to a Windows based Core Duo system and the MacBook was only 2F higher, overall, than the Toshiba (I think it was?).

That happened to one person. That doesn't happen to all systems. That is as representative of MacBooks as that little Dell explosion is representative of Dell build quality.

People need to wash their hands. People with clean hands never had that problem. It's not Apple's fault that the MacBook plastic reacted to people who didn't wash their hands. But at least Apple is now fixing the problem under warranty. HP refuses to fix my notebook and the known issue with the SB400 chip, the keyboard problem, clipping sound, ATI driver bugs, and the button on my DVD-RW not always functioning properly.

That's a new one. Haven't heard that one yet. Another rumor started by the anti-Apple crowd?

It's a notebook! You generally accept the fact that the system is not upgradeable beyond certain things. What's the point of upgrading to a Core 2 Duo when you're stuck with the same videocard, etc? Besides, the Core Duo is still fast. By the time it needs upgrading it will be time to upgrade the entire system.

Unless you run an abundance of extra software, eating up RAM and CPU time, you can. An unpatched Windows XP system can be infected by simply connecting to the internet. Theres no reason something like that should happen with a modern OS. Of course, you can't call XP modern anymore seeing as how it's 5 years old.

Blind Mac follower? Maybe you should read my other posts before you say such nonsense.
