One question for the DV2000 owners out there. Is there a protective sticker covering the "HP Pavilion dv2000" badge above the display to the right? The edges of mine seem peely, and I thought I tried to remove it on my last one but nothing peeled off easily so I stopped before I ruined it. Can anyone confirm one way or another?

Nope, it's not a protective sticker, just the fact that it's glossy just like everything else on this notebook; what isn't glossy on this thing LOL! But it still looks great :)

Mine isn't really glossy though, it's kind of matte and looks just like when they have the removable soft clear plastic protective layer on things.

I just peeled mine off, there is a protective sticker over it! Also i am starting to love this SEC screen, it can be dim at times.. but the display is clean. The speakers are amazing though...wow. Maybe the speakers in my old dv8000t was bad or something, but compared to it.. this dv2000t is so much better. For a 14.1" it gets pretty loud too! The only thing that bothers me is the loud cd/dvd dl drive.. when its reading a cd.. but arent they all like that?

I knew there had to be a sticker over it, now I need to carefully work on peeling mine off. I've had a bunch of different CD drives in my dv2000s, they've all been loud and they've all created enough vibration to make my fingers numb when I'm typing and it's in use. The new shipment of SEC screens are really nice, I think it's the best compromise of pros/cons of any of the screens I've had to date. :)

I am also lhaving problems with the touchpad - for every cursor move I would have to move twice - once in the direction I wanted to go, and the again to bring it back from whereever it jerked off to. I fooled around with all the settings to no avail. HP finally agreed there was a problem, and took it back for repair. The turn-around time was great (3 days!), they made it better but it is still flaky - now it bounces around every third time I move it (my nice black case also got scratched up in shipment - boo!) Any other suggestions for fixing, or at least which particular settings in the Synaptics settings help with this?

The last Setting category, Touch Sensitivity, is what I'd be playing around with. That sucks about your case getting scratched. The same thing happened to my 2nd laptop when I sent it in to be serviced. Apparantly they can't teach the apes with screw drivers there how to put a notebook in a bag before plopping it down in the box. I shipped the computer to them in mint condition and bagged, I get it back much more loosely packed, with no bag and some pretty deep scratches. I was still within my return window so you can guess where I told them to stick the computer.

I bought one of these notebooks roughly a week ago, and i think it is brilliant. I like the idea of the built-in webcam and 2 microphones. The only problem i have encontered is that my broadcom wireless doesnt see any wireless networks when my usb dongle does. Has anbody else had this problem? Also, i love the imprint finish and i think the looks are well worth the hours of cleaning the fingerprints!

i am not sure if this is normal, but my cd rom drive is freaking loud! As soon as i insert a disc the cd rom instantly starts spinning like crazy... it gets annoyingly loud. My hard drive also gets loud! it almost sounds like a phone viberating... Anyone else have these problems? loud cd-rom/hdd.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I have adjusted the sensitivity settings but doesn't seem to help. Can i send my computer back for the same problem that they claim to have fixed? (I was away from home when they send it back the first time, so had to wait 2 weeks to test it out.) Do you think they will/can fix/replace the scratching on my cover?

I have noticed a few comments about poor battery life. I just tested mine, and with the screen turned up and browsing the internet got 1 hour 40minutes. this seems pretty pathetic to me. What is a reasonable life for a battery? Is there anything to do besides buying a 12 volt? would a 3rd party vendor battery be better?

It's 12-cell, not 12 volt. The thing that makes the biggest difference is not having the screen on maxiumum brightness. I seem to get about 2 hours on my 6-cell, but I regularly get over 5 on my 12-cell. It seems like the 6-cell battery is half gone by the time I start the computer up, what a pain. It is nice and light though.

    Hi,
Has anyone tested the internal media card reader on the DV2000T for SDHC support?
    Thanks!

That is pathetic. I get a lot better than that with my six cell, and that's using Vista which eats batteries for breakfast. Basically, turn down the monitor brightness, turn off all wireless (unless you're using it for internet, then turn off at least bluetooth), set the system to power-saving mode (or whatever Windows XP calls it to ramp down the processor as much as possible), make sure you don't have a disc in the optical drive, etc. You should be able to get an extra hour or so out of that battery.

I just got my dv2000t, and it is awesome.
    core 2 duo 2.0 GHz
    1GB RAM
    120 GB hard drive
    with integrated graphics

How has your performance been with Vista??

I know min requirements for vista is 512MB ram, and the recommended is 2GB.
since i have the 1GB would i still get a good performance with the 1GB???

How has vista effected your battery life with the 12 cell battery???

    Thanks in advance. :D

Most systems I've seen with 1 GB RAM and Vista run about as fast as they did with XP. 2 GB and Vista really pulls ahead. Get an SD card to use for ReadyBoost and your system should perform well.

As for battery life, Vista does drain the battery faster than XP, especially with Aero enabled (the Power-saver mode in Vista turns off aero by default). On my notebook, I get about 15% less battery life on Vista (with aero).

    Hope that helps.

Sorry, meant ReadyBoost, which is the correct name. Basically it is using an SD card or USB drive as a high performance disk cache for smaller frequently accessed files. It works great and can speed up your system noticeably.

Gamermatt -- this thread is for those who already own a dv2000t -- see first post for rules. Please post your question in it's own thread to get responses.

And Vista is available to those who were part of the beta test, those with MSDN accounts, enterprises, etc. End of January is the wide consumer release.

i had to make the same decision. I picked dv2000t over dv6000t, because it was smaller, and much more portable. Plus i got a much longer battery life.

is their a technology like ReadyBoost that can be used in windows Xp for the dv2000t???

Dv2000t comes with the flash card reader, so if their is something like ReadyBoost for XP our dv2000ts can become even faster.

ReadyBoost is not part of Xp or 2000. It was specifically written for Vista. I do question, however, if SD card is fast enough for ReadyBoost.

Does Vista actually detect SD card are ReadyBoost capable?

My Sandisk SD card works great for ReadyBoost. One minor annoyance on the dv2000 series though is it means yet another flashing blue light... oh well. SD cards can work well but only certain card readers are compatible. Card readers that show up as a disk drive in Windows when there's no SD card inserted cannot be used... those that don't show anything until a card is inserted work fine.

Yeh itunes doesnt work on my dv2000 either, (skips every so often). Itunes 7.0.2 was supposed to be free of this bug, but it still skips on mine, I think it also has something to do with hp though as alot of poeple with hp dv series laptops have reported this.

Another thing that botherss me about mine. I cant connect to my wireless internet unless I press the pairing button on my wireless box which is VERY annoying as the box is in the shop my dad owns which is locked up at night meaning no internet :(

I haven't noticed any problems with the internet not being connected while using wireless or wired connections. I rarely use standby though, I usually choose between hibernate or shut down. ITunes sucks, end of story. I'm just hoping that the next version of iTunes out finally fixes the stupid skipping problem. Interestingly, songs on my dinosaur P3 desktop computer don't skip at all running the same version of iTunes, what's that about?

Does anyone have the analog TV tuner? I got one for Christmas and I love it, it really has a lot of neat features when combined with Windows MCE. The card gets ridiculously hot when it's in use though, can anyone confirm that this is normal? I'm surprised the stickers are still stuck to it after a couple of uses, haha. I think I'm going to start up a new thread soon devoted to the TV tuner card sharing all of the freeware finds I have discovered to increase the stuff you can do with it.

    PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Inte core 2 duo 2ghz
    1gb ram
    120 gb
    12 cell battery
    I have the SEC screen!!

Sometimes when I close the lid of my laptop, and come back and open it up, the computer turns on, but the screen does not.
The screen just stays blank as if the the computer is not on.
This problem seems to happen when ever it feels like, and only solution to get it up and working is doing forced shutdown by holding the turn on button.

I set my power option to "Always On", and this problem seems to be still happening.

My computer is set to go into Stand By mode when the lid of the laptop is closed. But it never seems to get out of stand by mode.

Has this problem occurred to someone else?

Is there a solution to this problem. All help will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance..............

It's really great, I love the stuff I can do with it. The subscription fee always scared me away from TiVo, so for me this is perfect. I paid $90 for mine on sale from Costco. Mine is the expresscard analog only one though, the one you are talking about is different I assume.

I'm not sure why you're screen isn't turning back on when coming back from standby, but I can help you avoid the situation. Right click on the desktop>>properties>>screen saver>>power.. click the Advanced tab, then change "when i close the lid of my portable computer:" to "do nothing." I avoid standby on notebooks, and recommend that others do the same. Try to just use Hibernate or Shut Down. I haven't heard about the screen issue happening to everyone else, might be worth emailing HP about.

I did a fresh os installation as recommended by hp support, and It seems to happen, but when this error kept occurring it seemed to be whenever it felt like. So still don't know if the problem is solved, I'll have to play around and do some more testing to confirm a fix.

4cefed4 why don't you recommend stand by on laptops, doesn't it help save battery power???
