    Hey all,

As with most of the readers and writers on this board I am looking for a laptop. Actually I have been waiting for about a year to buy a laptop. I really like the HP line of laptops, and having first hand experience with my girlfriends DV1000, I am really impressed with the quality and abuse the laptop takes.

So, again, as with many of you guys and gals out there, I am an occasional gamer. Though it is not extremely important to play the hottest games at the highest resolutions on my new laptop, I would still like to enjoy some of my favorites. The games I play included: Halo, Tiger Woods, CS, and Raven Shield. I am planning on buying a PS3 when they come out so gaming on the laptop will not be that important in December.

Here is what I do use my laptop for: Photoshop, Dreamweaver, SQL, ASP, DVD Ripping, Word, Excel, and internet.

I am also finishing up my degree with 2 more semesters left and will use my laptop in class for note taking.

I do a lot of freelance Web development and travel quit a bit. So I narrowed my choices down to:

DV2000T: 2.0 GHz Duo, XP Pro, 7200go, 1g ram, 80g HD, DVD burner (not Light Scribe), Web Cam, 12 Cell, and Blue Tooth...
    or
DV5000T: 1.83ghz Duo, XP Pro, 7400go, 1g ram, 80g HD, DVD burner (not Light Scribe), 12 cell, and Blue Tooth...

What do you think? Will the DV2000T pack enough punch to do the Photoshop and coding, and occasional gaming at lower resolutions? Or go with the slightly larger DV5000T??

    Thanks guys, G

    Hi,
if you want to travel i would stick with the smaller and lighter one. Its only games that will be better on the DV5000t and since u didnt mention that you do 3d, or CAD, i would not forgo portability for a few extra FPS in games.

However the go7200 is a very low end card, but it will play older games, and even some newer ones like doom3 and half life, with the settings down and the screen resolution down. - but it should pack enough punch for the games you mentioned.

The go7400 is a little bit more powerfull, but it still wont play the latest games with high settings and high resolutions.

    Go with the DV2000t

Thanks for your input. Do you think the 7200go will handle CAD and 3D work?

2d cad shouldn't have a problem, but 3d cad and any kind of rendering always benefits from a better card. In that situation, the 7200 may not be the greatest idea. It all depends if the extra size of the dv5000 is worth the better gfx card. also don't forget to look at what you're comfortable with. some people are okay traveling with slightly larger laptops, while others aren't...
