    Hi there,

My dv2040ca started to make these loud clicking sounds around the fan area. I called Hp tech support and was told to update the bios and I did, but after a day, the problem returned. I cleaned the vents out with compressed air (thinking that dust maybe have clogged the area), but it didn't solve the problem either. Please help? Thank you so much.

    Yours Truly Grateful,
    Mark.

You sure its near the fan and not near the hard drives? I remember a mild clicking noise in the fan area on mine as well, eventually it went away. Near hard drives, try defragmenting the drives.

Otherwise could be a mechanical fault at the worst.

First I thought it was the hard drive too, but it's louder at the fan area than the hard drive and the noise occurs even when the hard drive is not active. However, I will defragment the hard drive anyways, maybe it was the hard drive. Thanks for your post, SideSwipe. I appreciate it.
