I noticed the sticky for the other models, but I'm not certain if those instructions pertain to this model as well. I cringe everytime I have to boot up this laptop knowing that I have to put up with Vista's nonsense. Anyways, there aren't any windows xp drivers on the hp website for this computer, so is it possible to downgrade to XP and not having any hardware problems?

You should be fine downgrading to XP. The dv2404ca is part of the dv2000z series and so you dont have to worry about SATA issues Intel users face. The necessary drivers are available for download from the dv2000z section.

Thanks, appreciate your help. Just to clarify, all of the drivers from the "HP Pavilion dv2000z CTO Notebook PC" section on the HP website has everything I'm looking for?

Yeah, make sure you install the MS UAA audio drivers before installing the Conexant audio/modem drivers. Also you dont need all of the drivers listed since some of them are for devices which may or may not be included in your particular system(like Bluetooth, webcam etc).
