    Hi

I have a 13 month old HP Pavillion DV2500 Laptop and suddenly it doesn’t display anything on the screen (stays black).

I have noticed that the hard drive light comes on when its powered up but it goes out shortly afterwards and doesn’t flicker whilst its powering up.

I also connected it to a externla monitor and it still doesn't work.

Do I need a replacememtn mobo? Is it possible to buy one?

Most likely, your dv2500 has developed the nVidia GPU death...

Lead-free solder and heat have caused your GPU to partially seperate from the mobo. A replacement (repaired) mobo can be had on eBay for about $140 US and takes about 1/2 hour to 1 hour to replace.

I had the same thing happen to my wife's dv2400 and my daughter's dv6000 series.

I'm working on the same thing. The notebook is dead (graphically). It turns on and all the lights and CPU fan come on, but the screen stays totally black and has no output from VGA port. It's an HP dv2845se from BB with an AMD Turion X2 and the 7150 graphics from NVIDIA. I have a question though... Since this model was shipped with an Intel processor in some models, and the Intel boards and AMD boards look awefully similar, would you guys think it possible to go with an intel board with the integrated graphics? I would go for the intel board with the 8400m but it seems the graphics chip is in a different location for the intel board and my current heatsink won't match up. I know i'd have to also buy an intel processor, but might it work? The intel graphics are horrible for games but for reliability, they can't be beat.

Nevermind.. I solved it with the "Bake" method. Works like a charm now :)
