    Hi,

To all you dv2500 (or i suppose dv2000 would also be fine for this question), in real terms, how portable is the laptop?

Take for example a standard config with the 6 cell battery, it looks OK on paper being a 14", fairly compact, 2.43 kg (5.33 lbs)...but how portable do you find it? Could you perhaps compare it to something?

Bit of an odd question, but I;m very...anal-retentive about these details before buying!

It is confortable to carry around. It depends if you are thing on carrying it on a laptop bag or on backpack with laptop capabilities. Because the main reason I got my dv2000 was because its more portable than my old 15.4" ZV5000 7.7lbs.

At the moment I carry my computer on my backpack. By it self you almost don't feel the weigh, with a 1-3 notebooks its very comfortable, but every thing depends because when I have both the computer, math book, and 1 or 2 notebooks it gets heavy.

I think the best way to describe it is that it's a nice combination of portability and usability. It's definitely light enough to carry around on a day-to-day basis, but it obviously doesn't compare to, say, the Sony TZ. On the other hand, it won't cause eye strain, either.

I just moved from a 6.5 lb 15.4" laptop to the dv2500, and the difference is HUGE.

I'm a chick who occasionally carries her laptop in her shoulder bag. I've carried a Sony Vaio FZ (about .5 lb heavier than dv2500t) all over the mall (the 5th largest mall in the US, actually), and it wasn't a problem. The bag itself probably weighed upwards of 3 lbs, too.

    I think you'll be fine. ;)

I find chicks like you interesting.

On topic: the dv2500t is just about the right weight/size to make it portable and comfortably usable. it rocks!!!

I am not an owner of one, but I have the next larger and next smaller from HPs lineup. Since purchasing mine, I feel the tx is a little small, but super portable and the dv6 is a little big to travel with (but awesome screen, so I have been eyeing the dv2 as perhaps the perfect blend of size and viewable space.

I currently have the DV6000T (selling it, but a very nice laptop by any standards) and I just got the DV25000T this morning. The weight difference is noticeable, even with the 12-Cell. I downgraded from the 6000T to the 2500T because I orgionally wanted a smaller laptop, but the 6000T was more "bang for your buck" at the time. The 2500T solves that problem.

The screen is still big enough that you don't have to strain, and the keyboard is realtivly the same size as the 15.4 inch DV6000T. I like it. I love and hate to see my 6000T go, but I think I will be happy with the DV2500T. It really is a nice blend. The DV6000T was a little hard to travel with, and I left it at my desk a lot last year. I don't think that will be a problem with the 2500T

    I love my DV2500!

Before buying, I intended to buy a notebook with a 15" screen but when I saw the DV2550, I fell in love with it. I asked the salesperson to unstrap it from the counter and put it next to an HP with a 15" screen. To be honest, I could not see a difference in the size of the text or icons between the 14 and 15" screens.

Mine came with a 12 cell battery, which is heavy; I don't know the specs but it must be at least a pound. When it goes, I will probably buy a High Capacity 6 Cell Lithium Ion Battery instead (I don't use the battery a lot).

The 12 cell is nice though because it raises the notebook higher, slightly improving the typing angle (and, I suppose, the resulting airspace helps reduce heat...though mine, with the T5450 processor, runs extremely cool and quiet).

For what it's worth, I purposely bought the slowest of the new processors and the integrated graphics card because my absolute top priority was getting a notebook that runs cool and quiet!

If you carry it in a backpack or a laptop bag you should be fine
