    Hey guys,

I am trying to figure out the differences between these two (2500 and 6500), besides the size 14.1 vs. 15.4, if similarly configured, what are the differences? It seems I can get pretty much the same thing, just different sizes (and minus one USB port with upgraded graphics). Am I wrong?

The only thing it doesnt seem i can get on the 2500 is the HD DVD option available on the 6500, and I wonder if I could get one for the 2500 should I ever really want it..I am leaning toward the 2500...for portability..any reason not to? Any detail, however small will help! Oh and looking to get it at costco.com for the extra year warranty they offer (knowing that I cant use the 20% off coupon)...

    Thanks,

To my knowledge they can be very similarly configured online. I'm not positive on the HD DVD option for the 2500 so I'll leave that for someone else to answer. I recently bought the Verve Special Edition 2550se from Best Buy and am extremely happy with the 14.1" screen. Its a pretty significant difference from a 15.4", so I will just put in my recommendation to the 2500 just because of the size difference alone.

I believe the 8400M GS graphics cards are different. The one in the 2500 has 64 MB dedicated RAM, and the one in the 6500 has 128 MB dedicated.

George, good catch..I didn't notice the diff in dedicated ram, the 64 vs 128, do you guys think its a significant difference? I don't plan on doing much gaming but some..and 64 just sounds low? Comments please...

I am not sure. I think it pulls more ram if you need it, or it uses more ram depending on how much you have.

I'm no expert (not even close), but I would say more graphics memory is better overall. Just having a dedicated video card, even with only 64 MB dedicated, is much better than an integrated solution.

It really comes down to the type of gaming you will/might do. If they've got any 3D requirements at all, the 128 MB card will be better for you. If you run 2D games and such, the 64 MB card should be fine.

In either case, I would recommend getting 2 MB of system RAM. In the event you need more memory to run a slightly more demanding game, you can take advantage of that system memory. Your laptop may run slightly slower while playing that game, but it should be okay.

Again, I'm not all that knowledgable, but these are things I picked up while researching my laptop.

    Good luck.
