I'm not sure if this recently happened or not, but it seems like lately when I am just web browsing the notebook fan is running. I kind of recall that the fan didn't turn on unless I was doing some intensive like playing a game or watching a video. If possible can someone confirm this? Thanks.

Could it be that you've recently changed your power setting, or updated your video card drivers? Both could change your fan's behavior.

I did use to have the power settings on max battery before and now I am using the "home/office desk" setting. I haven't changed video card drivers yet. Maybe it is because of the battery settings. I'll give it a try and see if it is quit or not while web browsing. Thank you Storm.

Sorry for my delayed response, but I wanted to change the settings to "Max battery." I still hear my fan running even though I am just web browsing just like when I am on "home/office" setting.

I'm fed up of this noisy fan. I'm in a library and the fan is really annoying.
I take care the temperature and the odd is that the fan switch on at 45°C and switch off when reaching 35 °C (very hard and long time to reach!!), that means is always on.

    Stupid HP!!!

I understand how you feel. My desktop is soo loud that when it is on I don't hear the notebook, but once I turn off my desktop i hear the notebook. I can hear it when I'm in my room trying to study with nothing but my notebook turned on.

From the original F.0A up to the last F.25, the problem remains.
Do u know if Spedfan 4.33 could be useful? I don't know wich MB to select in Speedfan....

    Thanx

I've got a dv2500t also and the fan is very annoying to me. It wouldn't be that bad if it were always on (always off would be best) but it just keeps turning on and off at like 30 second intervals.

This will happen even when I'm not doing anything (just idling at the desktop). It's really hard to study with it because I'll be reading some boring sh!t and the laptop fan constantly turning on and off drives me crazy.

I can't find any programs to stop the fan and I i've updated all the drivers and the BIOS.

I think it's just a bad design by HP. If you look on the bottom of the laptop, the fan intake hole is soooo tiny. For example, my mom has an HP Compaq 6500 laptop from work and the intake fan hole (plastic grill that covers the fan on the bottom) is so large that you can see the whole fan. My dv2500t has such a small intake fan hole that I can only see 1/4 of the fan. As soon as the warranty on this thing is over I'm going to crack it open and drill some larger holes. I'm also going to try and replace the CPU thermal paste and see if that helps.

beanardnubbard, have you tried to downclock the graphic card? (I don't know if this is possible, I just got 2500t). I hade the same problem. If you only could change the fan limit temp...

lol, the dv2x00 version has a REALLY small vent opening. that's probably the reason for it being on constantly. But my dv6700 the fan is on at low speeds constantly, i can hear it, but coming from an old school vaio (2.8ghz p4 mobile) this fan is QUIET. lol. My old vaio used to sound like a motorcycle.

Thanks for the idea, I actually used Riva tuner to underclock the GPU as low as it can go, which is about 85Mhz. That lowered the GPU temps from ~58C to 52C.

The thing is I honestly can't really tell a difference. The fan is still annoying as hell.

Sorry for bringing back such an old thread, but I thought I'd give an update. HP released a new bios on 4/08 and it pretty much fixes this problem. With the new bios the fan is always on the lowest setting (almost silent) which keeps the fan from turning on and off constantly. It's a huge improvement I think, so download it if you want. Thanks HP.
